A Day To Celebrate

What a turn of events over the past 24 hours! If you read my previous post, I had a bad day yesterday dealing with a break-in and robbery at one of the swimming pools I manage at my job. It was a frustrating day dealing with all the repercussions of that event. But today was much better, and a cause for celebration! Today, my girlfriend graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, and I couldn't have been more proud of her! She's worked so hard over the past four years to get to this point. It hasn't been easy, but she stuck with it through thick and thin. Not only did she go to school full-time, but she also worked a full-time job and two part-time jobs to help pay her tuition and other bills. So, yesterday was a frustrating day, but today was a celebratory day! Have you ever had such a turn of events from negative to positive (or the other way around) in such a short time period? The photo is my girlfriend showing off her cap that she decorated for her commencement. Her only complaint of the day was that her hair--which she had straightened this morning for the graduation ceremony--was frizzy and curly by the end of the day due to the heat and humidity!

Congratulations to your girlfriend. Happy Celebrating! She did a wonderful job on decorating her cap. :) Her hair is lovely, I'd trade my hair from straight to get some frizzy curls! Hehe.

I love her natural curls! Most of the time she keeps the curls, but she wanted to do something a little different for graduation, which is why she straightened her hair. Her straightened hair ooked great for most of the day! But even her frizzy curls were cute too!

Thanks! It's been a very exciting, yet tiring, day for her. Next up is my daughter's graduation from high school at the beginning of June. Wow...I didn't even realize that I will start off both May and June with graduations! lol

@JamesHxstatic I agree! She definitely plans to get her Masters eventually, she just wants a break from school for a little while. I can relate...I did the same thing, and waited a few years before I went back to get my Masters.

It is wise to always look for the rainbow at the end of a storm! It's there, if you look hard enough!

Congratulations to your girlfriend. I'm amazed she managed to fit so much into her time. On the subject of hair - once everyone would have killed for curly/wavy hair but now all anyone wants is straight hair.

I definitely understand and appreciate what she went through working and going to school, because I had to do the same thing when I went to college. It was tough, but it made me a much stronger person.

@paigea At least her part-time job was doing something she loves and is passionate about. She teaches dance and gymnastics three nights a week. That's her stress release from the burden of going to school full-time and working full-time. I did something similar when I was in school. I went to college full-time, worked full-time at Walmart, and then bartended late at night. I don't ever remember sleeping when I was in college! lol

@snowy22315 When I was in college, my last semester was an internship in another part of the state. The place I was interning at offered me a job after the internship was over, so I stayed and kept working. I didn't feel like taking time off to go back to the university just for my graduation ceremony, so I just had them mail me my diploma.

This whole weekend was full of commencement ceremonies here where I live. UF is so big they have to have multiple commencement ceremonies over the course of four days. It was probably graduation day all over the country for universities and colleges.

@Shellyann36 Some students get pretty outrageous when decorating their caps for graduation. They basically are doing everything they can to attract attention to themselves.

That really is great news and she sounds like a great girl! My hair does the frizzy thing if it gets damp which is quite often as we get so much rain over here so I understand how she feels! Congrats to her; she deserves it for all her hard work.

I'm still dealing with the fallout from the pool break-in. Our city manager is having a meltdown about it. I don't think he understands that random crimes do happen in our city, and it is through no fault of our own. I guess he is looking for someone internally to blame it on. I'll continue to weather the storm a little while longer, and then some other catastrophe or crisis will rear its ugly head and then he'll move on to focusing on that. But in the meantime I continue to write email after email to anybody and everybody explaining what happened and what we're doing to improve our security.

@moffittjc - It is so frustrating that people do these things for little or no reason. I'm sure you are disappointed and frustrated that it happened, and the city manager is not making things any better. It is a shame that people have to provide enhanced security for a swimming pool!
