I just had the most interesting conversation

Another unexpected thing just happened. I was looking through the friend suggestions on facebook and came across the profile of my grand nephew, who is 15 yrs old. He is my brother's grandson and I have never met him except when he was three yrs old. I sent him a friend request and sent him a greeting through messenger, telling him who I am and my relation to him. We struck up a very deep and interesting conversation on messenger that lasted for an hour. For being only 15 yrs old, he is a very intelligent and wise youbg man. He knows this about himself and he shared with me what wisdom he has acquired in his young life so far. (He had a very rough early childhood) I am so happy to make this connection. His mother is my neice and we have never had such deep conversations as I have just had with her son. I hope the connection continues.

I met him only once when he was three yrs old so he wouldn't have remembered me. I lived on the other side of the country from him for many years.

Oh, I'm so happy for you! It was such a sweet encounter with "long lost" loved one. I admire your grandson, too. He seems to be morally principled---I mean, smart.:-)

Glad that your grand nephew had a chance to talk to you. Every bit counts I think, for when the kid grows up, having children, at least he could tell his children, 'yes, I know and did talk to my grandpa's sister ....' (I was always so in awe of my parents if they told me that they did know or talk to this sister or brother of my grandpa or grandma.)

I grew up knowing many of my great aunts and uncles on my moms side. Unfortunately, I never knew any of her fathers brothers and sisters, only her mother's

It happens to find people you really know among the "suggested" ones. Most of the time I get suggestions for people I never heard about.

That sounds rich. Its nice that you found him, it will keep you looped into that side of the family if you aren't really close with your niece.
