I'm starting to believe that opinions are becoming a lot like a fart that you have to hold in while in public. You dont know if it'll disgust people. Make them think differently of you. Or perhaps put you on their list of exile, someone to never associate with. The two concepts are very much alike. If your opinion is not in favor with the person, you will be given the expression of a "stink face", the same one that a person makes when they get a whiff of someones vile flatulence. Holding either one in will have the same effects on you. You'll be very uncomfortable and fidgeting trying to hold it in. Your stomach will turn and wonder if you should just let it fly and what happens, well, happens. Then there's always the wild card, the slim chance of a response that'll make you feel relieved. The reaction of whimsy. Whether your opinion was entertaining to begin with or the whistle from down below was just silly to the nearby party, you will feel a little relieved, but at he same time maybe a little embarassed. Maybe, just maybe, it may be better to just walk out of the room and give yourself a little breather. Clear out the air in you and just rethink your situation. The people in the room will never know just how close they were to you unleashing. Photograph- Taken/Owned by me, Plethos

I feel that its all in the delivery. If there is an opposing opinion, and its delivered in a fair and not overly-pushy way, then I'm more apt to want to listen and hear things out and be as open-minded as possible. But when things are roared at me as being superior, I close up and don't hear what I could. I can be very easily intimidated, and that of course explains why I don't often offer my opinion unless its done in a flowery way. Make sense?

@Plethos Hey, I have assorted variety, some with extreme stink, and some with no stink. May be the factory inside needs over hauling.

That is why I am very careful about giving my opinions...I don't give one unless I am asked to do so and I am very clear in the beginning that the opinion is very own of mine and people or the person asked may not agree with it! Thanks!

It depends who I'm giving my opinion to. Some people can't handle the truth / honesty.

@Plethos Hahah yes, and we all aren't going to agree, vice versa. I come across some who can't handle other opinions and only "like the one way streak" aspect.

It is a shame that we have arrived to a time when people have essentially lost the ability to have a civil debate over what are often perceived to be controversial issues. It is also a shame that people nowadays seem less inclined to take into consideration some points from either side of the issue with a level headed, thoughtful regard. Somewhere in the middle lies most answers, and all end results require a little bit of compromise. At the end of the say stifling discussion on the issues will never lead to any successful resolution.

I think voicing your opinion in public is OK, as long as you don't expect people to agree with you.

I agree with what some others have said. Delivery is key and being open to a discussion. Not be so adamant in your views that you feel you need to argue with anyone.

Since in my area most views are somewhat different than mine and most people have not moved on I just stay quiet and stifle it.

I notice that @vandana7 was the first response showing on this thread, Plethos... You KNOW what that means, right? You've lowered yourself far enough that she likes what you're writing about! And that makes it scary for everyone else!

I rarely voice my opinion {and never my flatulence} in public. I do a lot of eye-rolling when some unleash theirs though, particularly when it becomes apparent when they're not listening to other people's views.
