Mountain climbers are nature lovers but sadly they disregard their responsibility to keep the Himalayas clean but on the contrary they are responsible for dumping garbage and that garbage is there for keeps as it will never ever disintegrate. There is a rule in place now for mountain climbers to bring back with them a certain quantity of garbage or bear the consequences \
(KATHMANDU-AFP) - Climbers scaling Mount Everest will have to bring back eight kilograms (17.6 pounds) of garbage under new rules designed to clean up the world's highest peak, a Nepalese official sai...

If my sched and if the budget permits I sometimes join mountain climbing events or group trip. And we always have a goal with each climb. Like we will be giving candies to the locals or can goods or school supplies etc. Just to put smiles on the locals face. And after which we also help to clean the community on our way home. And of course taking our own trash home. And we will report back to the local authorities where we ask permission to climb. showing that we took home our own trash and that everybody is safe and there are no reporrs of any problem during and after our climb.

@allknowing the local authorities requires all mountaineers to get a permit first to climb or trek and what is their purpose, how many are they in the group, does anyone have any special medical conditions etc. And they will assign a team captain from their office as a guide to make sure that everybody in the group will be safe and also to make sure that nobody from the group will cause any problem to other locals and to the surroundings as well.

That is a good thing they have made the rule....otherwise the garbage there has practically no chance to disintegrate and it will form another additional peak of garbage in Himalayas! Thanks for sharing the important piece of information! Thanks

Perhaps that dump will be higher than Everest and when snow falls on it, wonder if mountain climbers would want to climb (lol)

There are islands formed out of trash, too. Some people are pigs!

Who knows with a bit of ice and snow these dumps could well compete with the Everest

And when the human species is gone. Planet Earth will still be around. Perhaps "God" created man to invent plastic and other "pollutants" which this planet needs but cannot produce?

I suppose when your life hangs literally on a rope you don't think about such things as environmental pollution.

If you're able to carry full containers up a mountain, you should be able to take the empty ones down with you.

@MALUSE _Next thing they'll be asking astronauts to the moon to bring back the junks they left behind. BTW, it's harder getting down compare to climbing up a mountain.

@MALUSE I agree.

When I first heard about adventurers who go to climb mountains I thought of 2 things: 1) Who carries their stuff for them? Answer: Some local who gets no credit!, and 2) What are they leaving behind? And there you have a picture of the answer to that!

The rubbish was taken to the mountain by climbers. So mountain climbing should really take this trash down the mountain.

Its a good decision but Why they are throwing garbage there?. Don't people have the sense? They should ask themselves 'isn't it my responsibility to maintain cleanliness'. Everyone going there should feel this responsibility.

Perhaps they need an annual climbing excursion by enthusiasts just to collect garbage. It'd be a way of sort of giving back to the mountain they so love. It's a shame all that garbage gets left behind.

It is not only mountain climbers who leave garbage around. Where I live we have an organized beach clean-up twice a year, just to try and help keep the beach clean.
