Where will our Warring Instinct lead us to?

Wars

I have been writing on our propensity to be at loggerheads at the drop of a hat. Though we, as individuals, can avoid and ignore those who are not to our taste and inclination, at a wider level wars are always looming on the horizon. They are thrust on us and prove we are losing the plot of coexistence. We fail to reach a common ground. My take for this happening “around the clock” is: 1. Those who benefit from wars are setting our agenda. 2. We are led by emotions and easily manipulated 3. We take it for granted we will baulk before the precipice and continue to play with fire 4. Some think we are the special ones and our creator will step in at the nick of time to save mankind. 5. Most think they can do nothing but accept the reality as a fact of life. 6. We are led to believe some are evil while human nature is such all are amenable to reason. We can kindle love that may lie dormant in some. 7. Our leaders make us believe wars are the best way to fight for peace. A real leader is one who can lead us to peace without going to wars. We should remember and revive the global platform, The United Nations, to play an enabling and inclusive part. Now it is the big powers telling others to behave while they themselves set the wrong example. The smaller players are kicked around with “either you are with us, or against us”. How to curb this “warring instinct”? Is it permanently etched in our DNA? Image; Wars from Wikimedia Images

Have you forgotten where it all began? I think you will get good examples in the Ramayana and Mahabharata

I have read "Fields of Blood - Religion and the History of Violence" by Karen Armstrong. She has detailed the truth in each of the world' s traditions from prehistoric times to the present. Brutality has been all-pervasive; killing those who do not kowtow to organised religions - siva

@Shiva49 Yes. There is only one God but certain religions think otherwise, sadly.

I think war never change anything. The rich are still rich and the poor are still poor.

It is difficult unfortunately as the poor all has their own agenda as well.

Yes, the poor are sacrificed due to the greed and ego of the mighty. We have to get our act right so that the vast majority are not used as tools - siva

I think wars seem to be instinctive.

Some love peace more than war and are ready to die because they cannot kill. Only God can bring peace.

@Shiva49 It seems that your faith in man is as strong as my faith in God. For there to be world peace without God, 8 billion people will have to take a stand for peace.

I recall reading about soldiers from opposing sides showing great compassion as they realize they are just the same, no hatred or enmity between them. I believe we will come to our senses maybe after paying a very heavy price. That brings to mind what Einstein said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones" - siva

@1hopefulman We are created at the apex of creation, sort of as a co-creator. I feel it is up to us to decide whether we want to survive or not. Martin Luther King said: "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools." I believe there will be a rise in consciousness over time with a realization to celebrate the oneness of humanity enriched by the uniqueness of each of us. I think we will prevail after learning some bitter lessons along the way - siva

War is always of our own making. Will we continue to choose war, over peace, or not then, is the question?
The "fact" that wars exist is pretty indisputable. It must come from the warring instinct in the human makeup. Is God a God of war, or of only love then? Given that it all starts with God, and so God allows everything else to be as it is, ultimately so for some reason, including the Devil, and that there have been wars, even in Heaven, and that the angels of God's also carry swords, and fight battles for him too, or so it seems, both here on the Earth, and elsewhere, according to reports in the Christian Bible, I wonder about the answer to this question. I would say that God, himself, is a God of love, but his creation is a warring creation, because God gave them all options, bar none, except to take over from himself. God left them to be as children, of a beginningness of infant consciousness, hoping that they would grow from his constant supply of love, flowing onto them, at all times, but to allow this to happen in its own way, God leaves his world to be itself, and so even in all of his creation, including his angels, he allows this to be so. Wars in heaven are common too, because God takes a back seat, and watches on providing guidance, only when asked, but otherwise remaining in the back seat of his own car, even when it is heading for an accident. All will eventually grow away from this infant phase, though, as the projective arrow always has been shot forwards by God's bow, never backwards. We just see his arrow as an instrument of war, rather than as the arrow of time, that he has opened up for us to allow us to live within its flight span. @Shiva49 I guess there must still be pockets of good around, otherwise, God might well have swept us into those graves, that we have been so gravely digging. The old Chinese sage Lao Tzu said it well: "Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." We all need to do more of both of these then. We need to allow others to deeply love us, and we need to love deeply others in return. "Love one another, as I have loved you," said Jesus Christ, and we still all sorely still need to do this too.

@Shiva49 Yes, we must realise that we are all in this together, and act more as each other's friends, rather than as each other's enemies.

@innertalks Agreed Steve, we might escape by the skin of our teeth as the vast majority is struggling to have their writ run and lives on hope for a love filled life and better future. That should tilt the scales in our favour. There should rise one united effort when everything seems lost as the underlying good in human nature will surface to save our day - siva

Warring instinct disturbs peace but one has to protect one's country.
