Are you getting enough water?

Hi MyLot! Awhile back I had 2 inspirations to begin drinking more water. A friend of mine was telling me about a friend of hers who went to a weight loss seminar. What her friend learned - was that the recommended serving of water is half of your weight - in ounces, in water daily. If you don't drink the water, apparently, you don't loose the weight. Also, I had searched for what causes extreme tiredness. I hadn't been able to make it through the day without feeling tired or needing a nap. One of the main causes of exhaustion can be dehydration. So those to facts lead me to try drinking more water. I keep track daily now. I can't always half drown myself with all that I should be drinking. But it is a lot more than I used to drink. And sure enough I'm not as tired and I think I've even lost a tiny amount of weight. So maybe this water thing is to thank. Or not - but one thing is , it can't hurt. Do you get enough water? I can say that I do! I can drink approximately 3-5 liters per day depending on my activities :)

That is a wonderful and useful discussion! Yes, water is very essential fot it has many functions to do in body! Like to keep the viscosity of the blood normal,it helps in proper digestion, in formation of urine to throw wastes from the body, to maintain the turgidity of your skin, to sweat normally to maintain the body temperature etc are few things to mention! One should have ample of water to avoid many ailments which can happen because of less consumption of water! Thanks!

I drink water like it's going out of style. It's good for your complexion, and like you mentioned, I always heard it helped lose weight. Plus, you can get a headache when you don't drink enough water, and you know I'll do anything to avoid those. You can always tell if you are getting enough water by your urine. A very light yellow to almost clear and you are doing good. Anything darker and one is not drinking enough water.

Oh that is great to keep up with the water. You're right, I have seen so many articles on water and complexion. The urine color trick is a good one, too

I know that I don't drink enough. But I don't have the urge! How can one force oneself to drink more?

That is the trick. At first it is difficult. Like @enlightenedpsych2 mentioned - the light flavorings of add ins like fruits help. I once did apple slices and cinnamon to sit in water. That was tasty too. After about 2 weeks of trying to drink more water - I noticed that naturally, all by itself - I started to crave plain water more and more. Hope it helps :-)

I drink over 8 glasses of water per day. If I don't drink water I feel awful. The only other liquids I drink during the day is one cup of coffee in the morning and possibly one glass of sweet tea at night with supper. The tea is really an up in the air kind of thing because I often skip it and opt for water instead.

@FayeHazel Thank you, I wish I had started drinking water like this when I was younger. I try to assure that my kids drink enough daily. I hope that they remember the lesson as they grow older and enjoy drinking water as I do now.

I recently had my laboratory exam and the result of my urinalysis was interpreted by the doctor as me having a urinary tract infection. And the antibiotic he prescribed to me was so expensive. He also advised me to drink lots of water. So now, I am trying to drink a glass every hour during the daytime.

@FayeHazel ACtually, about 15 years ago, I had a UTI. I took the prescribed antibiotic, but after 7 days when I had my urinalysis again, it was still within me. So, the doc had my urine cultured. From it can't be determined what caused my UTI. He told me to take one glass of water every hour and after 7 days come back and have urinalysis. Wonders of wonder, my UTI was gone already. So, i just think my UTI is caused by my infrequent drinking of water.

Oh I am sorry. I have had urinary infection too. It's no fun. Sometimes I find - if I can drink a lot right away when I first start to feel it - I can prevent it from happening. Not always though. Also there is some truth that cranberry juice will help to get rid of infection.

I fill up a gallon jug of water every morning and keep it with me throughout the day. My goal is to drink that entire gallon by the day's end. Most days I can accomplish the goal, but not always. I often work outside where it is hot and humid, and so I sweat a lot on some days. So I am constantly drinking water.

@FayeHazel Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we still get dehydrated. I played in a paintball tournament this past weekend, and I suffered severe dehydration and heat exhaustion by the end of the weekend. I was drinking water and Gatorade like you wouldn't believe, but it was not enough to keep up. After 16+ hours of extreme paintball in full battle gear in the stifling Florida heat, my body finally had enough. Two days later, and I'm still trying to recover.

@moffittjc Oh dear. That's scary! But then, if you were in "battle gear" (Am guessing it's heavy and hot) 16 hours of paintball? You kid? Wow that is intense. I hope you or your team won. If you were playing 16 hours you must have been one of the winners. Feel better soon though

I tried that once, and the doctor told me not to drink more than the three bottles I'm used to. My blood draw showed I was way low on sodium, something drinking a lot of water will flush from your system.

Oh wow! True, not good to be high or low on certain elements. I wonder if you could do something like gatorade - which I think has sodium in it

@enlightenedpsych2 Ah - is there a "diet" version? It's probably got chemicals rather then sugar then... can't win.... It is scary how much coloring is in our food. Butter isn't yellow, cheese isn't orange, and fruit smoothies shouldn't be vibrant colors

The original band edit of "Camel Walk" filmed at Dave's single-wide trailer. The band invited all their friends out for the video shoot and had a great party...

Since about two or three years ago when I landed in the ER for dehydration, I have kept up much more these days with how much water I drink. It's still a chore to get it down, but I usually can get at least my 64 ounces in. Not always. But most of the time. It is amazing to me the things that dehydration can actually cause.
