Has anyone heard of this author? I just finished reading this book, it was one of the dozens I got for free from someone on Facebook. It looked interesting and it was. Even though it seemed like the book was devastation after devastation for the characters, I got hooked in! I would suggest this one. I am realizing I dont know what time setting this is in, but my guess is the 1970s or even 1960s. This story jumps between present tense (for them in the 60s or 70s) and past tense of when the main character Addy is growing up. Addy has lived a hard life, growing up poor, in the south, with many tragedies of abuse and death, and starting over. The book follows her through her adolescence and childhood into adulthood. Now, as an aged woman, she is left with a 6 year old child by a white woman who abandons her kid. Since Addy is aging herself, she is concerned she isnt able to take care of her. Essentially Addy has to come to terms with demons of her own past and figure out the future. This synopsis is not very good. Sorry! It was definitely a page turner. I hadnt heard of this author before so I am not sure if she has any other books. Haveyou read her? What are you reading these days?
