Silly kitty antics

Meetzee washing her paw before drinking. I took this shot with my Nikon.

Meetzee is the strangest cat I've ever had. She always washes that one paw before drinking. She was mom's cat originally and used to beat up any stray dog that got into mom's front yard, it is gated but those little dogs can squeeze in, then to my surprise she attacked larger dogs as well. She also has the nasty habit of suddenly biting me, not hard enough to break the skin but still I was bitten. None of my other cats have ever bitten me and none of my dogs have either. Why do cats do that?

What is normal for a cat would often be called OCD or Tourette's in humans. They have their little 'routines' and every cat is very different. Mine has a particular way in which he accepts a stroking/petting session. He must get up on my lap from the right for about a minute and then he has to turn around so he's facing the other way for about another minute or two, then he climbs up my left shoulder waiting for my arm to make a cradle for him. After about a minute of that he's had enough and has to get down. He also often tests the level of the water before drinking. A cat's vision is not really very good, though they detect movement and can react to it MUCH faster than we do. It's possible that she is using her paw to ripple the water so she can actually see the level of it.

Uh oh, looks like both my females have OCD, Max apparently is the only normal one. The vision idea you and JJ mentioned makes sense, maybe Meetzee's eyesight isn't as good as that of the other cats I've had. I should have thought of that

My son's cat has her little routines too. It's interesting what you say about their eyesight.

I think it sounds about right with what @owlwings said. She can't see the water that well and is testing it to find the level.

It is highly likely that's what it is. With her it's hard to tell.

sounds like she's trying to find the water level. cosmos did that before he passed away to find where it was.

That's what @owlwings and @myklj999 said as well, apparently some cats have really poor vision.

Poor Cosmos @scarlet_woman I'm glad you figured out what happened with him. I don't think Meetzee is blind, she has her own water bowl in the room I've set up for them and she doesn't do the same thing in that bowl.

I was interested in @owlwings explanation. Certainly our son's cat has very particular routines.

@rebelann Sophie before drinking her water always sticks her paw in the water too. Sine Meetzee just started to bite maybe she got it from somewhere. My Sophie has always bitten. She never learned manners so I try to teach her but she still does not listen to me.

@rebelann I didn't find her. A family found her and this was their first pet and raised her till 3 months. I got her after that and she will be 4 on August 15th.

She's a kitty believing in washing her paw before every meal and drink?
