Will it be Useful?

Sometimes we learn things and ever wonder, will it be useful? I know that happened to me a lot in school. Like why aren't you teaching me about taxes, why do I need to know the powerhouse cell! Yes, it is good to know, but I also don't need to know the Pythagorean theorem! With working on mturk, I look at a lot of receipts of things people have purchase and I write a bunch of information. One of those key things I have to write out are phone numbers. I want to know if my gaining knowledge of Area codes is ever going to be useful. I guess if Caller ID ever fails. I just think it is funny to have all this possibly useless information.

In school my favorite was math and science and I do see how I use them often now since I am older. But History? No! I reckon I shouldn`t have skipped English every chance I got since I write a lot. I better get rich because I will need an editor!

Absolutely hated math. But I loved science and I use my science knowledge in random situations. Especially when it comes about anatomy and health. That was actually useful. History was my absolute favorite and I still love learning about history and everyone technically uses it, because the point of learning history is to prevent it from happening again! I need an editor and I went to school specifically for writing! haha

You never know what will be useful, but the only thing I can think of that I have never had any reason to use is parsing a sentence. I have never even had a conversation about that!

@DesirousDreamer Well, I made my living writing and I still never had to do that! I suspect the only ones who ever do are teachers of it.

@peavey Teach someone how to write and you can say that you have at least used it once haha!

Yes, for some reason schools often don't teach things that are truly useful like consumer math or financial literacy. That needs to be a requirement for all schools.

All we got was 1 week of learning from chapter 8 (which is hilarious because it was a chapter about money) and all it really taught was how to math out a mortgage and I'm like...most of my generation can't afford apartments let alone get a mortgage for a house!

I think that our brains work in such a way that the things we use most we keep and the others stuff we forget after a while any way. If I use a phone number quite often, I remember it. If I don't I forget it.

You never know what you will need to know later in your life, but it's true that at school we learn a lot of stuff that is useless.

@DesirousDreamer It is funny when something you thought was totally useless comes useful one day.

@LadyDuck I love when that happens. It is such a bizarre feeling, to have all this random information and tips and then one day it is like OH I learned this for a reason.

Right? It is interesting in the stuff we actually learn and it actually feels good when such useless knowledge actually becomes useful! haha

It might not be useful for you in the future but it surely is useful to get all that information into your writing to get a payment in return

I remember the days before caller ID and phone books that had the area codes for every place on earth. Now, it's automatic.

I still remember my first phone number, but I don't even know my mom's number now because everything is just in a single tap.
