Cloves to the Rescue

Many years ago I had an ant infestation, and didn't know what to do, so I called my best friend and asked her. Ground cloves around the edge of counters was the answer. It worked, and I use it and recommend it today. Ants hate cloves, and it's poison to them, as I saw it in action before I moved out of my old home a couple years ago. It literally kills them if you pour it directly on ants. So, they avoid it all costs. I was desperate this morning. My fly swatter got a lot of action. So, I decided to find out what would work against flies. The Internet has answers for just about anything a person wants to know. Googling How to Kill Flies, gave me a lot of information. Some of which I couldn't use, some I can. The best and most effective of what I have on hand - lemon juice and ground cloves. The information said to cut a lemon in half and poke it with whole cloves. I don't have whole lemons or whole cloves, however, I do have lemon juice and ground cloves. I took a vase and put about a half inch of lemon juice in the bottom and poured ground cloves generously into the lemon juice and swished it. I took the vase and set it on my printer/scanner and suddenly my office isn't buzzing with flies. In fact, they're moving very slowly. It shouldn't be long before my apartment is fly free. What a blessing that will be. Cloves to the rescue once again. Do you have proven methods of getting rid of flies and other insects? Thanks f or reading. Picture mine.

That is an interesting cure for the pesky things. Thankfully we have never had an infestation of ants but I will hopefully remember this if we ever do!

@just4him There are ants tiny ones all over the place around here. I will try what you suggested. Poison is not good around my two kittens.

I use insecticide to get rid of mosquitoes, nothing natural worked. I never tried cloves with the ants, I will if/when they come back inside.

@LadyDuck I still have them, but it's only been a couple hours. However, they have definitely lost their speed and agility. It won't be long before they are gone from this world.

Thanks for the clove tips. I only know that ground cloves on toothache spots also come to the rescue. I will try it on ants and flies now too

I like your approaches. Being a former Batzner Pest Control guy when I lived in Wisconsin, I still use both chemical and preventive measures for pest issues. Natural remedies are a good alternative.

Your former company is the one the complex uses for pest control. I see the work sheet up by the mail boxes every once in a while showing they were here.

@porwest Yes, it is. I had a small roach infestation that showed up suddenly, and didn't last very long, which was good. It was the first time I've seen them in Wisconsin. I hope it will be the last time ever.

I've been pretty lucky so far @just4him not too many flies, well, the house fly variety that is, but we do have flying insects which have kinda long skinny bodies and don't make any sounds. I was at walmart and wouldn't you know I forgot cloves?? I'm going to have to start making shopping lists

@rebelann That's okay, I went to the store this morning after swimming and when I looked in my wallet, I didn't have my debit card. I had just enough cash on me.

You're welcome. I know it's working, but we seem to have an over abundant infestation of flies this year. They go down to almost nothing and then a little while later I have a new influx of them. I do have fly paper up as well and that's also getting a few of them.

The small ants, apply Vaseline on their part especially the route they use to enter the house and they just disappear.

Good to know those little tricks, I can do that with gnats. Take a small cup, pour red cider vinegar in it, cover it with a piece of saran wrap and poke holes in it. Set on a table and they go right too it, once they crawl in the holes, they can't get out.

I'm glad you found the answer to your fly problems. We had ants one year and I sprinkled them with salt and around the area where they were coming in. I haven't seen any in the apartment since.

Many years ago cloves worked well for a toothache, As for flies, it is the trusty old fly swatter or those sticky films you put on windows .

I have a paved yard and ants started to come into the kitchen. I read about cloves but I didn't actually believe they would work. Instead I used bicarb of soda and lined it where they were coming in and they stopped trying.
