6 hour attack this time....

Sorry my posts lately are mainly about the issues with my gallbladder. Just venting about it. About 2 weeks ago I had a gallbladder attack that lasted 8 hours. I was hoping it would be the last attack before my gallbladder removal surgery which is on the 24th of August. But yesterday morning I had another attack. Which was worse than the last attack. I went to bed around 5am but woke at 7am from my right side ( where the gallbladder is ) hurting. I knew this was going to be a bad one so I decided to make a doctor's appointment to get a script for codeine. Normal pain killers don't do anything. Before I left to walk to the doctors ( doctors are just around the corner from me ) I vomited. Went to see the doctor and I cried in his office. It was because it was hurting as well as me just being exhausted. I've been having other issues lately that are preventing me from getting a good night's sleep. So another gallbladder attack was the last thing I wanted. I got the script for codeine, went next door to the pharmacy and broke down crying there too. The people there are so nice. They know I've been dealing with some things lately so they were really sweet and supportive. I'm thinking I will give them a "Thank You" card for all the times they have helped me. I walked back home and vomited again. Had the codeine tablets. Jumped in the shower to have hot water fall on my shoulder blades since gallbladder attacks cause my shoulder blades ( mainly left ) to hurt. I sat on the floor trying to calm down. These tablets are meant to work in about 30 minutes but because my attack was bad, it didn't really take affect until 3 hours later. I was still having the attack but the pain was lessened. It made me really drowsy before it helped the pain. Another 3 hours later I was back to normal. Only thing I'm still dealing with at the moment is a dull ache in my left shoulder blade. But I can tolerate it. It's the pain in the side I can't tolerate. I don't understand why shoulder blades hurt from the gallbladder. And I don't understand why it's still aching now. Will have to ask a doctor about it. Unless anyone here knows why? Anyway, for some reason I am still awake. I'm sort of in zombie mode due to lack of sleep and codeine tablets yet I'm awake. Been awake for about 21 hours already. I have a feeling I may be subconsciously scared to lay down incase I wake in pain again. It often happens like that. Thank you for reading.

@LovingMyBabies That made me teary eyed. Thank you so very much for your sweet and caring message. Just touched my heart cause it's been a stressful time lately. Just wanting to rest but things going on making it hard to do so. I think you know that I'm not religious ( on the fence ) but I do appreciate when people have me in their thoughts / prayers. I feel very supported thank you so much.

@VivaLaDani13 Well, you are so welcome and God does love you!! It's not about religion-it's a relationship I have with Jesus!! If anything has happened and you blame God for that just know in the Bible it says the enemy is the one that comes to kill, steal and destroy. God brings life and love! He is my amazing Father and He is so good. I will keep you in my prayers, I will pray God touches you with His love and proves to you how much He does love & take care of us. Oh and loving God isn't about a bunch of rules we must follow if that is what you have been taught or heard. We follow God's commandments because we love Him! And we love Him because He first loved us. =) And we don't hate life because of these rules--they actually BETTER our lives and make things a whole lot less complicated and make us see the SELFLESS side of life--it is amazing!!

I am so sorry you have to go through this but I think you should go if another bad attack comes and get emergency surgery. I know it is scary but I also know what happened to my friend. This is my friend from the 6th-grade time and I live in an apartment now in her 3 story house. She got a gallbladder attack over six months ago. Even before I arrived here. She suffered a lot and took trips to the hospital. They gave her pills and said it was not an emergency. She got so sick she could not go anywhere. Finally, at the end of last week, her husband took her to emergency again. Now they saw how terrible she looked and was suffering. Finally, the operation is done and soon she will be home and her husband says she feels like a new woman. So I am saying do not let yourself suffer so much and get help.Virtual hugs and many blessings to you.

IS the gallbladder essential? Can't it be removed? YOu shouldn't have to suffer like that!

@snowy22315 Luckily I don't deal with the pains every day. It's mainly the bloating and some days feeling sick that I deal with. Which I can tolerate. My case was put on the "Not very important" list. It's still important but according to docs / surgeon, I'm not dealing with severe symptoms. The only opening for me is 24th August. Which is a bit to wait but I'm glad it's happening at all. It wasn't easy even getting to this point. I've had really annoying and incompetent doctors in the past. So I'm happy surgery is even booked. A lot of doctors didn't take me seriously. So glad I decided to see new and better ones that actually do tests to figure things out.

@snowy22315 Yeah it can be removed. I have no idea why we even have them lol We can be fine without them but yeah mine is going to be taken out next month. Think I will throw a party after it's gone.

I'm so sorry to hear that you had another gallbladder attack. That pain must be horrendous. I'm glad you were able to get some codeine for it, although it did seem like a long time for its effects to help you. I'm wondering if your shoulder pain might be related to your nerves. When I fell out of a tree a couple of years ago and broke all my ribs and slightly damaged my spleen, I was having lots of pain shooting up my left arm and in my left chest area. I was panicking that I was having symptoms of a heart attack, but my doctor explained to me that a main nerve travels from our lower spine area and passes by our organs as it makes its way up to the arms and upper torso. He explained that because of my injuries and all the swelling associated with it, that my swollen spleen or ribs were most likely pushing up against the nerve, causing me to feel the pain in my arms and chest. That might be what is going on with you too, although I don't know for sure.

@moffittjc You so remind me of Rambo right now. When Sylvester was falling down some trees in one of the Rambo movies, he actually did break some ribs. The sounds he was making wasn't acting. He was actually in pain. You poor thing Jeff! Still can't believe you did that! Well....no I can since you break a lot but that was really something I wasn't expecting! But yes I think you could be right about that. My dad was thinking the same thing too.

Go to the hospital! Your gallbladder needs to come out. I have endured gallbladder attacks too and the last one was the last straw. I went to emergency, when I told the doctor that an ultrsound of my liver and gallbladder showed that I had gallstones, he admitted me right away and I had surgery before the end of the week. Do NOT disregard that you could also have PANCREATITIS. That is what I had as well as an inflamed gallbladder. Don't mess around with this. No amount of codeine is going to cure your gallstones pancreatic duct. It can create only more problems for you in the shape of ADDICTION. This is not something you need. Go to the hospital and address this serious issue correctly and immediately.

@Starmaiden I was really considering going to the hospital but like I told @NJChicaa there were some things keeping me from not going. Maybe I have been told something wrong but at least two people from the hospital as well as nurses I've talked to elsewhere have said that they don't really operate unless they press your side and it hurts. Or you show other serious symptoms. And mine never hurts when pressed. I don't know if what I have been told is accurate but it makes me standoffish on going. The last two times I was there, they gave me tablets, I was better then they sent me home again. I understand what you are saying too. Believe me I know all about the dangers involved. My liver results haven't been good lately due to my gallbladder. And I've already had multiple blood tests, urine tests, CT scan and ultra sounds to keep on checking me out. And the very first surgeon I saw declined operating on me because he believed my pains were "in my head." Which really ticked me off! My test results clearly showed I have stones yet he didn't want to operate. If I have another attack soon then I have already thought about just going but otherwise, everything is booked for the 24th of August. Thank you so much for reading and answering! I'm so glad yours was taken out! They really are little buggers when they start to cause issues!

When my gallbladder started to hurt and until it was removed, I thought that someone had cut me from back to front with a big knife. People who haven´t had the problem say not to worry, because you don´t "die" of it. It is true that you don´t die. But at times you wish you would. I hope that August comes soon. It is less than a month. I´m SO sorry!

@marguicha You are right to some extent. Leaving the gallbladder in when it isn't function the way it should can cause major issues. It can also turn gangrene if it's left too long without any treatment which then also affect other organs. Pretty scary stuff. Thank you so very much!

I am so sorry it happened again. About the pain in the shoulder, this is what a doctor told me: Our brain doesn't have an "image" for your internal organs. We receive pain signals from the nerve endings, which remain at the position where the organs were during the fetal development. In the case of the gallbladder this is near the shoulders.

I would be finding this so difficult to cope with. Do you perhaps unconsciously tense up when the pain is bad and this affects your shoulders? I hope someone has a better idea and some way to help.

@JudyEv Somewhat. Though, the pain in the blade doesn't really come until the side of the stomach has already been hurting. I guess not everyone is the same but for me, I get a pain on the right side where the gallbladder is, then it goes into my lower back and left shoulder blade. Then if it's a really bad attack then it's right side of stomach, middle of my stomach, all of my back with shoulder blades. Such a horrible thing to deal with. Especially when it lasts for over an hour.

@JudyEv From what I understand, the pain in the shoulder has something to do with the nerves. I kinda understand but don't know how to explain it right. Pain in the shoulder blade/s is actually a symptom of a Gallbladder attack as well. Which sucks.

@NJChicaa I actually did consider going to the hospital this time only it was a mixture of reasons why I didn't. One was fear. I've never had surgery before. Another thing was I've been told by doctors that if they push my side and it doesn't hurt me then they won't bother with surgery. ( for some reason my side never hurts when being pushed during an attack ). And the one that bothers me is my surgeon told me that an inflamed gallbladder is a bit more difficult to deal with during surgery. So because I'm already frightened of it, the idea of going in during the attack bothered me. I know people will think I should have just gone in but it was mainly fear and no guarantee I would have it taken out. Didn't want to sit in pain in the waiting room for no reason. I've already been there twice before waiting for hours just to be given tablets and sent home again.

@VivaLaDani13 If you have a history of attacks and you go in while in excruciating pain during an attack, then I don't understand why they wouldn't take the damn thing out. When I went in, they did an ultrasound and said that it was full of stones, the walls were thickened, and 2 other things I'm forgetting but it was very clear that the thing needed to come out. I've never heard anything so moronic as the "if it doesn't hurt when we press on it, no surgery" thing. That makes no sense. I waited way too long to have mine taken out. By the time they got in there, it was bleeding and was gangrenous. What should have been an hour and a half surgery turned into almost 5 hours. It was supposed to be done laparoscopically but they couldn't do it that way and it had to be converted into the full "open" surgery. That made the recovery much harder. These idiot doctors are putting you at greater risk making you wait for so long.

@NJChicaa That's exactly what I kept thinking! I found it stupid when I heard about that pressing thing. It almost felt like a dumb excuse to not help me. My recent ultrasound showed that my gallbladder walls are thickened too. Aw geez you poor thing! My Uncle and Pop went through what you did and had to have an emergency operation. I am glad that it's all over and done with for you! It has been hell I swear! I changed doctors as the ones I used to see were just stuffing me around. I suffer with depression so a lot of their "answers" for curing me was to "work on myself" to stop these "stomach pains." They kept pushing me away saying it was all stress giving me pains. I have been dealing with these pains since I was about 16. It was a bit over 2 years ago these gallstones were finally found. And I'm only just finally now being accepted to have it removed as I have been turned away from morons thinking it was "all in my head." I don't understand how I could fake such pains and sickness! It's all there in my blood tests and scans. I can't fake those or imagine those! I don't like when people don't take me seriously. I have no reason to lie or exaggerate. When all my gallbladder issues are over with, I'm getting cards and gifts to the doctors who actually stood by me and helped me.

Pretty soon you would be nicknamed "The Gallbladder Lady". Can only imagine the level of pain by the thing you mentioned that a tablet that takes 30 minutes to take effect normally took 3 hours to work on your suffering. There is nothing...no words enough to help your through it. I keep hoping that surgery goes well and you be rid of this monstrosity sooner rather than later. The old doctor shouldn't have turned you away in the first place when he did not believe that the pain was real and not imaginary. That doctor wasted so much time and delayed your treatment. That was the one who asked you to keep a food diary for 6 months, right? SMH! Honestly, that doc is also in some way responsible that you are suffering this much. If the treatment has been administered in time, the stage of your sickness wouldn't have had any time to get worse.

@Daljinder Funny enough as I was typing this post I was actually wondering if people would start to know me as the girl with that bad gallbladder! Yeah I still get annoyed with that other surgeon sometimes as it's pretty clear this wasn't all in my head. As if I would scheduled a fake sick day and to this extent! Yep! That was the one who sent me away for 6 months. Half a year wasted just to be told it's not real. Maybe I can sue him instead.
