My son gave me a small spaghetti squash plant in spring and to my surprise I now have spaghetti squash. I don't have enough space in my vegetable garden for things like squash and melons so I was happy to see this one actually produce something. It survived by climbing up a fruit tree. Why is it called spaghetti squash? When you use a fork to scrape out the flesh of the squash it comes out in strands like spaghetti noodles. You can bake it, boil it and make numerous healthy, interesting and low-carb recipes. You can also use it similar to how you would noodles. Do you like squash and have you had spaghetti squash? http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/properly-prepared-spaghetti-squash-162765

I had it several years ago so I am happy my son has re-introduced it to me and I am actually able to grow it.

I am a fan of it, but not everyone in the household is. It's my favorite alternative to pasta.

I never used to be a fan of it but now that I am vegetarian, it is more appealing to me.

@Freelanzer The vegetables we grow ourselves are more meaningful for us.

It is healthy and low calorie. I haven't had it in awhile but it is exciting I was able to grow my own.

Never heard of it before. That one looks strong and healthy. Reaping vegetables from one's own garden gives a wonderful feeling.

A neighbor gave me three, I simply adored this vegetable! Wish I could grow one (but we don't really have room for anything except for flowers).

I don't have room either but was happy that it decided to grow up a tree and actually produce.

@Freelanzer I have a vision of such a fruit growing on top of my new car after reading your post. (I park my car right there, close to the old veggie patch...).

Oh yeah. I've had spaghetti squash. My favorite is acorn or pepper squash. No body else in my family will eat those types of squash though, so I have to eat it by myself

Did it need a lot of watering? It'll be neat when it's time to harvest it! We haven't had it in a long time, but I had a recipe that was tomato sauce based with ground beef - and maybe cheese on top. Yummy!

Yes that is one way to eat it. I water all my vegetables daily so it gets the same water as the others.

maybe the meat itself of that squash is soft that is why it can assume strands when forked upon?

The flesh is soft but firm so it holds its shape

I haven't seen a spaghetti squash; it could be beautiful and healthy too. Can it be cooked just like spaghetti?

Tastes similar to most other types of squash. The only thing with this one is that it looks like noodles when scraped.
