UUUU Whooooo, how've ya been?

I took this shot in Dec of 2016, I was standing on Loop 375 on the east side facing northwest.

I've been better but I'm not ill exactly. Apparently the fluid in the retina of my left eye has been slightly detached somewhere and is causing me some grief when trying to read. It could be due to the dry nature of this region, I'm not sure. Did I mention my right eye has amblyopia and therefore is more or less blind? I've been using a magnifying glass to help me see the print on paper or the monitor because if I use control + to enlarge the font I don't get the whole image as I should ...... cheeze, I either need a really humongous monitor or I have to get really close to the monitor and squint but either way it's reading print that I have the most trouble with. I'm grateful that my distance vision is still ok so I can drive, I'd be totally lost if I couldn't see to drive. So my friends, how've you been? I took the photo on this discussion in 2016 on the east side of my mountains, I was facing northwest and as you can see it's really dry out there.

My seeing is reverse of yours. I see fine to read but far off I need glasses. I am glad you are back.

I've always worn glasses but this is the first time I've had to squint to read, usually I just put a pair of readers over my prescription glasses to read.

I have been wondering where you were. I have poor eyesight. I now wear bifocals but they really do not do me any good. I end up taking them off to read things up close anyway.

@rebelann I tell you, my eyesight has been bad since I was in high school. I paid over $500 for these glasses from Walmart (which was the cheapest place to get them). A regular eye place wanted over $1200 for my prescription. I will not get the bifocals again. They really are worthless for me. I hope that this will bring down the price of my glasses.

I can't wear bifocals because my right eye has amblyopia and will go straight to the strongest point in the lense, that'll give me an eye ache for sure. It's tiring to try to magnify everything to where I can actually see it to read it then have to reduce things for the rest of the page to work, it's a total beach.

It should @Shellyann36 single lenses aren't as expensive as long as you don't add a whole lot of extras to them. The only thing I stay with is thin lenses, if I had regular lenses they be way too thick and heavy.

I am very sorry, I hope they can help with the fluid in the retina. I am noticing that my vision is not as good as a few years ago.

I do not have cataracts @LadyDuck the fluid in my retina detached itself in a small spot and that's causing my vision to be compromised.

@rebelann You need more light to read, at least for the moment I do not need cataract surgery.

Hmm. Not sure exactly what causes retinal detachment, but it is a bummer. Part of the treatment was a vitrectomy, removal of the vitreous humor in the back of the eye... Bleh. Good to see you around.

Neither was the Doc, he told me it's somewhat common as we get older but I personally think it had to do with severe dry eyes, which silly me didn't consider in time so didn't use artificial tears I'm glad to be back but I can't read too well yet so I'm not on as much as I used to be.

good one @pgntwo I've learned a good lesson, now I have eye drops handy and am using them every few hours to make sure my eyes don't dry out again. It's the only thing I can think of that would cause this problem, the doc wasn't much help really plus the prescription he wrote is so badly written the pharmacist had to call his office for a translation and wouldn't you know they haven't returned his call? I'm stormin in there tomorrow to make them call in the order so I can pick it up without a problem. Why do doctors have such bad penmanship?

@rebelann I hope the recovery continues, and we see more from you as things improve. I was going to say "look after yourself", then I realised that expression assumed good vision too...

There you are !!! Oh gosh, is there something they could do for your eye(s)? I have watery eyes no matter what - it's annoying. And I am finding it difficult to read small print these days too. The kiddos just finished their first week of school, so we are trying to relax today . . . it was a crazy hectic week!

@rebelann I'm glad you iz here . Oh yah, watery eyes are no fun . . . I have to keep wiping my eyes. Do the dry eyes hurt at all? I'm not volunteering at school as much like I did last year - no way. This week I had loads of errands to run while they were in school - I was able to do it alone - but still it took much of my time - and before I knew it was time to pick them up. Your dry mountains are a lot like ours . . . thus the wildfires.

I didn't feel any pain but the change in my vision occured overnight and that bugged the bageezzas outta me @much2say now I'm keeping the eye drops handy and making sure to use then every few hours. Yeah, we've been lucky there haven't been any stupid bozos around to set them on fire, have the caught the jerk that caused that last fire?

I have an eye problem also and it's bothering me lately because the doctor warned me to be more careful because of rapid increase of my eye grade and if the phasing continues I probably could have a more serious one in the next few years. Hoping that you are taking care of your eyes also.

I'm not sure what you meant by "eye phase" but I do hope you find a method that will help with your condition. As for me, I am using eye drops more often now in hopes that will help.

I have always worn glasses so that is not the issue. What probably happened is I let my eyes get too dry which is easy to do in this desert.

After reading a few comments I'm thinking you had what I'm trying not to get. The vitreous is attached by fibers to at least the retina and optic nerve. It may be attached elsewhere too, but that doesn't affect our vision if that changes. When people reach sixty those fibers begin to shrink. A large percent of the population will never even know this is happening. For a few of us those fibers can either shrink completely away from the optic nerve or the retina. It used to be if it shrank from the retina a person went blind, but there are surgeries that can be done now to save the sight. Years ago the patient undergoing this surgery had to remain face down on a flat surface for days. Don't ask me how they went to the bathroom. Now, or in recent years that surgery is so much better that the patient only has to keep their head down after surgery and even after they've been home for a few days. I only know of this improvement because a senior that lived across from my mom had it done and explained it to me. I wonder if the shrinking for you only affected your retina or if it already affected your optic nerve too and you didn't realize it? For me, the symptoms I have is flashing lights mostly at night when driving around and looking out either window for traffic. I was told to limit carrying heavy items even at work cashiering as that can make it worse. I think the vitreous can reattach itself if we don't overdo things in our lives. I don;t think surgery is ever done to reattach the vitreous to the optic nerve probably because one doesn't lose their sight. It's the retina which is located in the back of the eye that makes it possible for us to see. I did ask what symptoms to watch for to make sure the retina wasn't being affected, and I was told if I began seeing light in the daytime. Once in a very great while I see a small dot of light but it's very rare and doesn't last. I will pray that your eye heals completely, Ann. Can you pay a neighbor boy to carry those bags of litter to your house, or maybe you need to buy them in smaller amounts. I know it's more expensive, but better than messing up your eye more.

I must be or else I'm simply getting used to having to get really close to text or the monitor to see print, either way it's not as disconcerting as it was at first, I'm still hoping this condition will heal itself somehow.

Thanks. I'm just glad it's not as bad as something like diabetes or whatnot, the doc thinks this can be remedied which is watt I am hoping for ..... I've also begun to use artificial tears more often, maybe my eyes got too dry so now I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen again.
