Something you don't see every day - a swarm of bees in Times Square yesterday

A swarm of bees, probably thousands, were sitting on top of an umbrella of a hot dog stand in Times Square and then they started flying around everywhere. In one of the videos where they are flying everywhere people seem to be walking as if nothing is going on around them. That would so not be the case had I been there. One bee freaks me out. Many would be the end of me. I wonder why this happened and how it was taken care of. Are you afraid of bees? Do they freak you out?

I certainly am uncomfortable. I am afraid of being stung.

Someone may have bee hives on the roof. This is a new trend. In Germany many buildings in cities now have bee hives on the roofs.

@MALUSE I did not know this. Why did it become a new trend?

I saw that news story. That was something I never expected to see. I am not really afraid of bees as long as they don't get too close to me.

If they are far from me I am okay with that but they can eventually get very close.

I saw that on our news and was surprised how and why the bees decided to flock on that umbrella alone. I also saw that someone with a protective jacket on siphoned them slowly to remove them ftom the umbrella. News said that it may be a queen drone have landed there and its scent attracted the bees to protect her.

Interesting bit of info. Wonder where so many bees came from. And why they were on that one umbrella in particular.

Obviously, it can happen that a swarm of bees escapes. The bee keeper must come and collect the bees to send them back into the bee hive. I'm not afraid of bees. They don't freak me out although I've already been stung.

But how were there so many in Times Square is the question. Where did they come from?

I certainly don't like seeing lots of bees around me. I'm always worried about being bitten. Although I'm not allergic to them, I still swell up a bit if I get bitten.
