Looking For New Pants

United States
September 8, 2018 11:38am CST
I'm in a quandary because it will be long pants weather soon and I need some new ones. All summer long I enjoyed my capris and didn't have to worry about length. When it comes to pants I have short legs and mostly need a petite length but a regular size. 9 times out of 10 either the legs are too short when I get a petite length but a regular is too long. Who would think that a mere 2 inches or so would make a huge difference. I'm past the age where jeans are comfortable so I'm usually looking for elastic waist. You know me...I hate physical shopping and just the thought of going to a store and trying on pairs of pants is mind boggling. Either I'm going to have to bite the bullet and shop OR wear my capris all winter and crank up the heat

Most of the time I have to adjust the length, it's only 1 inch, but the pants are usually a bit too long. It happens that I buy in the "children" department.

I don't think I ever got clothes in the children's dept even when I was a child

Some people actually enjoy shopping for clothes but not me. I do like shopping for other things though

You could look online to see if you can shop from sites. I usually need bigger sizes and longer length for my long legs. Here is one on petit length that I found for you.

Being only 5 feet tall I know your pain. I am a size 10/12 depends on the brand, and I am always having to cut and hem, it rare I find a pair that is perfect. I do wear jeans with the good old fashion button and zipper and last year I found a pair of faded glory jeans that are perfect, walmart brand too. So try their online site, see what you find.

I haven't worn jean with a button and zipper in years but I do remember loving them as they fit almost every occasion. I'll have to make a trip to Walmart or Target and see what's online too.

Just order online..I am sure you can find something that will fit. I bought a pair of jeans last weekend. I have plenty..but I am not sure what fits and what doesn't.

I never adjust the length, I just buy new shoes with a different height of heel. No problem! I bought a couple of pairs of dress pants like what you are looking for not too long ago. Do you have Northern Reflections? That was where I got mine. And they are a nice soft material, I love them both. Good luck with the shopping.

@Marilynda1225 Not necessarily high heels, but I have flats, and then 2 and 3 inch heels. Depending on the pants, and some shrink in length if I fail to follow the laundry instructions. I just checked, and yes, they are online.

You are so smart why didn't I think of high heels?? Serously I can't wear heels at all anymore so unless it's flats or sneakers I'm stuck. Never heard of Northern Reflections. Are they online?

The alternative is to order (sizes can be a "craps shoot"--did I spell that right?) and you might have to hem. I'd just bite the bullet and head to Target.

I'm sure my end result will be hemming whatever I get. Target will be on my list of stores to hit

That's why I love leggings! No pants ever fit me perfectly. All pants are "once the hem" meaning that the hem needs to be taken up one inch and the waist taken in a bit on each side. Sometimes I've tried on pants that were made for giants with about 6 inches of too much material. I won't be buying any fall pants, since I will remain in shorts and dresses most of the year. I just bought a few new long sleeve tops, blouses, and sweaters to wear with my old pants.

See now if I go to Florida for the winter (I wish) I wouldn't need to worry about long pants

@Marilynda1225 . We could go shopping for sundresses and shorts, then out for drinks and lunch or dinner every day! It’s easy-peasy in Florida! It’s a mini NYC down there with the most fabulous shopping. Oh, the fun we’d have!

I used to have trouble getting pants that fit but styles have changed and pants are now ampler than when I was younger. My waist isn't so narrow anymore either. I cycled everywhere growing up and my thighs are somewhat more developed than most other people. Skinny jeans were not a good option. Too tight around the legs or way too loose around the waist.

I'm at the age for stretchy and comfy. When I see skinny jeans in my size I cringe. I want fat jeans.

I actually found some nice pants with elastic waist. They were a regular size but with short legs and the legs are just the perfect length. I was very pleased. I'm now thinking I should have bought two pairs while I was there.

I hate shopping, too. But yesterday I went out and bought myself three pants. But then again I have to take them to the tailor because they're too long and I'm too short. It sucks.
