Watching Movies or Watching TV Series?

I am sure this topic has been covered, but I thought I would revist it, and give you my take on movies vs series. I am curious to see if you agree with any of my responses or have some other viewpoint. I have been watching more TV series than movies lately. Although I still enjoy a great movie, if I am watching on my TV at home, good series are more easy to find. The Premium channels have too few decent movies being shown in their programming (especially newer ones), and other TV station's films are not very recent. Usually, I have already seen them many times in the past. With Netflix and Hulu providing their own series programming you also have so many choices in finding a good series to watch today. You are not limited for example to just HBO and Showtime. What do you think? Do you prefer series or movies on TV? What reasons do have for favoring one over the other? Thanks for responding.... I really prefer a movie as in a couple of hours I can go to bed but with a series it is too tempting for me to keep watching till I get to the end.

@dgobucks226 True! However, some series are so good that I have continued with it till the end of 2 and 3 seasons and watched them in a few days as they were so good. This was usually in the cold winter. I looked out and said I'll just take it away and watch a few episodes.

@1hopefulman I have done that too. Sometimes one episode leads you to another. They always end each episode with a bit of a cliffhanger, so if you have it taped you just have to continue on....

That is the funny thing with series. You find yourself wanting to know what's going to happen next. With a movie you have that conclusion. And some series can go on season after season until it's appeal is lost.

I agree with you that Netflix and Hulu offer good choices for series. I've yet to find a good movie that's current on tv . The last movie I watched recently was Angela's Ashes which was quite old.

I enjoy the suspense of a good series and what's going to happen in the next episode. And you have many choices among which to choose as you stated!

@dgobucks226 I remember growing up, we hardly had any tv stations so what we have now is amazing to the "good old days".

@ramapo17 That's right! Channels 2-13 I believe. I remember a Sunday afternoon being a big movie day. My Dad always had some war picture on. Or channel 9 with the Million Dollar Movie No HBO or Showtime then. Now there are so many channels imagine if you didn't have a remote control to use????

For me depends on my mood. There are times i just want to watch fast so I watch movies which ends in just ine watching. There are times that I watch series because the storyline is just interesting that you cannot just put it in one seating.

@dgobucks226 True, right now I am hooked to a series I think the storyline cannot be contained in just one movie. It becomes more interesting and fun to watch as time goes on.

That is such a good point rsa101! Some series storylines are so good you cannot wait until the next episode airs! With movies no waiting as you said, there is a direct story and conclusion. Series can have great character development and there are so many to choose among.

@dgobucks226 If something does not appeal to me I go out and find something that does. It is great and I have watched some old movies on it too.

A series can be very suspenseful because you have to wait till the next episode to find out what will happen. Do you have a favorite series your watching?

A good movie is so magical. I do find series good if you have other things you need to do with your evening. Series episodes are usually just an hour vs movie times being much longer. But at least movies won't get cancelled on you, lol.

@dgobucks226 @Courage7 I like movies and tv. I'd rather watch good tv during the week due to it being a shorter time frame between each show. I'd like to watch at least one good movie over the weekend due to having more time to watch. Can't really say which I like best

My husband and I like watching some movies when we do not have any of the series available. I record a lot of shows so I have them handy when I cannot find any of the things we like.
