Feeling A Little Better

After being sleepless for a lot. And after 2 ear doctors I finally had a goodnight sleep last night. The ear specialist I visited yesterday seemed to have given me a potent drug. It was very pricey it’s 225 pesos per piece but it works fast. I’m happy to pay more for meds if it means shorter suffering than pay for cheap and suffer longer. Doctors should ask rather than assume that we need the cheaper ones. What are your thoughts on this guys?

Specially if it’s ear pain. It’s really unbearable. If it was something minor I would probably be okay with a slow medication. But it wasn’t letting me sleep.

@Janet357 I definitely will. Even showering is a plight as I don’t want my ear to catch water.

I agree a lot of times the generic labels don't work as well!

@Michellekidwell That’s true. And since it doesn’t work well it’s like an unnecessary expenditure

I don't do well with medicines. They don't seem to work well on me.

@kepweng Yes, I have tried herbs and they don't work either.

@flapiz Medicines work for some people and don't work for others. I belong to the group of others and so have to endure whatever pain comes my way.

I think being in Australia for 4 years have made me a medicine snob. I want really good ones!

i remember having an ear infection (otitis media, if i remember correctly) many years ago. you can't help crying because of the pain until you fall asleep exhausted, then it's the same pain that wakes you up in the morning. yes, the pricey meds tend to work faster. and yes, i've encountered doctors that still prefer the branded ones.

@hereandthere I’ll be here for a month for an English review. So still sucks cause I can’t concentrate with the pain. And I can’t hear much.

@flapiz ugh, wrong timing. how long will you be there? it sucks if you're there for a visit, but end up staying in bed the whole time.

Thank you. I still feel a little bit deaf but at least I feel more determined to go out of the house and stroll. I can also sleep well now.

I really shouldn’t but sometimes when I’m cleaning my ears I get so carried away. Specially cause it tends to be itchy sometimes.

I am glad you are feeling better but maybe there is a generic version of the medicine you could take?

That’s the cheapest version. Apparently medical professionals avoid prescribing it because it’s too expensive. But for people with acute infection and pain. I think I’d pay anything for fast relief.

Still there. But from 10 out of 10 I’d say it’s 3 to 4. The new doc gave me tramadol for pain.

I totally agree with this. My husband had experienced this a few years ago.

I really realised how much I value sleep with this experience and the value of having a good and reliable doctor. I’m not from this part of the Philippines so I had no clue who to go to.

What caused your ear problem?

I poked it too much while cleaning and it got inflamed and water gets in and can’t get out thus causing infection. The doctor said since I have this chronic problem, I might have cholesteatoma. I hope not.

Still sick Fred but at least now it’s not like something is stabbing my ear. It’s more of just feeling of something occluding it.

Hi Maria! Not 100% yet but still very grateful that it’s not too painful anymore. I think I’m on my way to recovery.
