The Countdown to Arizona is on

Happy Sunday all! Made it to my weekend and am happy about that (now just hoping my body will let me sleep well this weekend as it has been super poor lately). Since I feel like I am kind of a jet setter this year, the next short trip is coming up quick - November 11th! Me, my sister and her husband will be headed to Arizona for some Grand Canyon and Coconino/Sedona adventures. I am excited! Have you been or any trips coming up? Somehow I have managed to be in charge of our agenda. I like the planning and gives me a project, but can feel overwhelming. Here is what we will for sure (or mostly sure that is) doing/checking out: -Grand Canyon south rim (I hear the north rim is cooler but is closed during the winter months). We will not be hiking far down into the canyon as those are not short day hikes. But we will do a few miles on South Kaibob trail anyway. -Red Rock State Park and Slide Rock State Park near Sedona in the Coconjno Forest -Devils Bridge trail - a popular one in Sedona -Briefly check out Flagstaff -Possibly check out a meteor canyon about 40 miles east of Flagstaff -check out two wineries in Jerome, Az (owned by Tool/A Perfect Circles James Maynard) -Oldtown Scottsdale (a historic small town with brewpubs and shopping) -Sonoran desert (if time allows) What we won’t be checking out: -Horseshoe Bend - this is one of the classic tourist stops by the North Rim but will be too far out of the way to make it worthwhile -“The Wave” - an extremely cool looking rock formation trail. Hard to describe. It is so popular that you have to sign up for a lottery and be chosen to get a permit to check it out. Needless to say we did not get the permit. -Havasu Falls - a very beautiful waterfall tucked away in the south rim. Unfortunately it is an 8 mile hike each way and we don’t have that in us. Sorry for the ramble. But I am excited! For those who have been to the area, anything else to suggest? Or do you have any trips planned?

You're going to have a wonderful time. Last year I went to Tucson, Arizona to visit with my daughter. I mostly remember a lot of fast cars. I'm just getting done with vacation with my hubby. We went on a little road and train trip then have been home.

Fun! Nice. I really wanted to see Tucson. It looks cool with all of the adobe style homes and businesses. But sadly we will not get there which is too bad. Glad you were able to take a short vacation as well!

@maezee I enjoyed visiting a mission church and a botanical garden while I was in Tucson. I enjoyed visiting with my daughter since we hadn't seen each other for around five years. I felt bad at the huge effort that she made as she navigated all that horrendous traffic. She'd drive miles out of the way so that she could find a way to turn in the direction that we really needed to go. Just crazy.

@sallypup yikes I did not know that. I wonder if Phoenix is the same way? That would be annoying.

Do not miss Sedona, is beautiful, I was not impressed by Scottsdale, the old town is nice.

I am excited! We are staying in an Airbnb right in Sedona for two days with a nice view of the red rocks. Is there something in particular I haven’t mentioned I should check out? I couldn’t decide between staying in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe or Phoenix for our last night since it is nice and close to the airport since we have an early morning flight!

@maezee If you have an early morning flight stay in Phoenix, this is what we did. You should add to your list Montezuma Castle National Monument, it is located in located in Camp Verde, it's worth the visit.

I have been to Grand Canyon a couple of times, but not recently, when I was there with my sister, she took the mule trip into the canyon.

Did you guys do any hiking? It doesn’t feel like there are many small trails in the south rim. But did you enjoy it overall?

Likewise! I am excited but also a bit bummed our trip is when the North Rim is closed. I hear that’s pretty cool.

There's a lot to see in Arizona time permitting. Too bad you aren't going to Petrified Forest National Park.

No! I know. I hear good things about it but it is so far off of our path. Maybe next year when I check out New Mexico
