I always look at the responses to my discussion and choose who gave the best response. You should too.

I always go back and mark best response as well. I think it's a good way to encourage others to continue to participate as well as an easy way to recognize whose answer was most helpful. I don't always do it right away, I try to make sure I have a good number of responses first, before I choose.

This is the same for me. But, there have been time that I have had only a few to choose from. Sometimes I get great responses. If the responses I receive are what I wanted to people to get out of the post, then I will choose from those. But, when I get random responses that are irrelevant to the post I wait. Should I mark that one as best or just leave it?

I do! But I also wait al least a week before picking one. That way it gives plenty of people to reply. I made the mistake in the beginning and gave best responses to people right away. Then I realized people you reply some different a few days later that I would have made best responses...but I had already done so. So...I wait until I know the discussion is something that is no longer active.

Yes, if the discussion isn't deleted before I choose one.

I have choosen a few on mine. But not all yet. I do go back after a week to 2 weeks. To choose the best response. That way if someone has a great response but post it later. I still can select them if I choose.

I was quick on a couple of my posts to name the best, only to have someone post one later on that was awesome.

I always choose a best response too. I usually wait 3 or 4 days or until responses start tapering off to my discussion. Sometimes I only get 1 or 2 responses, but I still mark a best response anyway. As someone else already mentioned, I think it does encourage people to participate too.

Checking your responses keeps people coming back to your discussions. You should get in the habit of doing this.
