Impromptu Surgery

Yesterday, I wound up getting surgery and a stitch while having a beauty treatment. My doctor, a board certified plastic surgeon, looked at a tiny bump above my lip, where a beauty mark would normally be during my last visit to him in August. He punctured it with a needle and clear liquid oozed out. Off I went. Since then, I had a tiny black and blue mark, which looked like a tattoo. So I had him look at it yesterday. He had to use a biopsy tool after numbing me, and extracted a tiny, ugly, benign cyst. I only needed one stitch. The good thing was that I didn’t feel anything during my beauty treatment. Afterwards, I drove to my son’s house to see his new bar mirror. What a surprise to see my husband there helping my son to hang it. And what a surprise for them to see my pretty new face marred by a wad of gauze under a bandage.

There is a show about a dermatologist and her practice, and she has had several patients with tiny cysts removed from their face or head. It's oddly fascinating.

I could never watch that. Ewwww! . My doctor showed me what he pulled out with his tweezers. The nurse and I gagged when it broke up. So glad it's gone.

I hope that your wound heals fast. Nothing like a face wound. Sticks out like a sore thumb. I had a spot in the middle of my nose burned off. The doctor didn't place a bandage on it. I am allergic to the adhesive in the bandaid. So I had a blister first, then a nasty looking scab. When it fell off I had a red mark for quite a while. My skin is so fair that it takes a long time for it to return to normal.

Egads! That sounds awful. I assume the red mark is long gone? My doctor assured me that a tiny scar would look better than that ugly tattoo looking mark I had, which makeup didn't cover. Right now, the cause slipped out and is in the trash, but I have to leave my bandage on until it falls off naturally. I will have a whisker sticking out and have lots of going out plans until the stitch will be removed on Tuesday. Ugh! But the rest of my face looks great!

@DianneN so sorry, I had to laugh not because of your situation but because of your words, speaking of typos. I'm going to guess. The cotton fell out from under the bandaid? Is it the stitch that is sticking out? I just can't see a whisker on your pretty face

@MarshaMusselman . The gauze. Darn that autocorrect! I'm laughing hysterically!!!!! No whisker. It will be the stitch when the bandage falls off. lol

Thanks, Anna. I will be fine, but when I arrived at the doctor's office, I didn't expect to have surgery. He even put a sterile blue towel over me and asked me not to touch it. At least he did my other treatments first and I didn't even feel them - a huge plus!

At least it was a benign cyst. Certainly, that stitch will be gone after a few weeks. I am sure he has given you an ointment for the scar. That is a beautiful receiving room in the picture. So cozy!

@SIMPLYD His house is even larger than ours. He has a 3 car garage, den, family room, kitchen with a dining area, living room, dining room, and a huge two story foyer. He has 4 or 5 bedrooms and a huge bonus room, attic and full basement, screened in porch, and a magnificent landscaped piece of property. Here is a photo I quickly found

Yes, thank goodness. I definitely will use scar ointment. Thank you. We call it a family room to hang out in, but he has a den just through the French doors where they watch TV. He also has a formal living room or sitting room which is unfurnished. It will take forever to furnish that house of theirs.

I'm glad to hear it's wasn't your cosmetician that did your surgery. I wonder whether the cyst was there all along or what? I head my family Dr remove a bump in my forehead from which I used to get something not clear, out when squeezed. At the time it looked like a blackhead. Eventually I decided to leave it alone and let it heal and that's when it formed a bump. Because I waited many years to have him do it there was scar tissue he had to contend with which w want fun as he had to turn a bit. But the cyst never came back again. Is the mirror on the right side of the room? I don't see it near the mantle

@DianneN the paintings will be a nice addition. I thought the other on the right looked like it could be a mirror even though we're not looking right at it. Will the stitch dissolve eventually or will he needed to snip it out? I've never gotten anything infected in that manner. I have other bumps that are probably cysts too like under my bra strap. I showed my Dr years ago and he told me to let it heal once I did it formed a bump. It's nothing to worry about as it doesn't get bigger. What's really fun is when you begin getting age spots I have those mostly on my back and they itch like crazy once I get in bed. I had one near my eye but it's healed now.

@MarshaMusselman That's it! The stitch will have to snipped. Ouch! I'm sure you will keep an eye open for any change. I had some brown sun spots lasered off. It's a miracle what can be done with modern medicine. I may need to return for more after being in Florida.

We should never, ever squeeze anything, because they can become infected. So glad your cyst was finally removed and the scar tissue, too. I'm pretty sure the cyst was there when I first had him examine it, although it was tiny. After he took care of it the first time, my skin was flat and smooth except for that bluish looking thing. Glad it's out. I don't relish looking at the stitch once the bandaid falls off. The mirror doesn't quite show in the photo. It has a place for glasses that they put up and and a shelf. I think you can see it hanging on the wall on the right. They are looking for a a couple of large paintings, one to put over the couch and one to hang over the fireplace. Her aunt was an artist and may have some oil and watercolors in her basement.
