Heard on the radio...

The great "they" are predicting a rise in the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables because so many greenhouses have switched to growing cannabis instead. And the radio pronouncer gal was talking about Beethoven's 250th birthdate celebrations in 2020, which is only a year and a bit away. And then it's another short hop to 2525.... "In the year 2525 If man is still alive..." Which is scarier? Edited to add: I must have had a senior moment there, mistaking 2525 for 2025.

There already was a lack of potted tulips this spring because a major supplier decided to switch to the weed.

Oh wow that is terrible news. I don't smoke so have no interest in cannabis growing although I do think it's good for those who need it for medical reasons. But I don't want a ride in the cost of fruit which is healthy and I love! I got oranges for $2.95 for a 5 pound bag at Aldi's yesterday. That's low so I was happy to grab a bag for my son.

I should have bought oranges yesterday when I was out, but I thought I had a lot more at home than I did. (I was away for a few days.)

Our society now will fall out eventually. None of them know how to cook , clean or grow food. When I move I plan to have a very large garden

I've always tried to have a garden, even if it was just some pots on the balcony.

@BarBaraPrz It is not really sure that our earth will last another 500 years, not according to scientists.

Isn't growing cannabis illegal in Canada then?

It's complicated. There are various regulations that are being phased in, but recreational use is now legal, and some registered pot stores are opening. There was talk of allowing individuals to grow up to three plants for their own use, but I don't know the state of that.

The growers are going where the cash is obviously. Happy Bday Ludwig! Zager and Evans, in the year 2525.

But you can't eat only weed, and doesn't it make people hungry, or is that a myth?

I wonder if we can put cannabis leaves in the salad? It might make a nice salad "high" in vitamins?

Here in the US we are expecting shortages of fresh fruits and vegetables also but not because of cannabis. Our shortages are a direct result of the Trump Regime cutting the guest worker program down to a fraction of its former self and Americans not being willing to do the farm labor jobs the guest workers did. And even when we get fresh vegetables these days, we don't know if we can trust them thanks to the same Trump Regime cutting funding for FDA inspections of farms and processing plants. Food, such as romaine lettuce, not to mention things like beef, are hitting the market carrying toxic organisms that can sicken and kill us.

Back in '68, it seemed so far in the future and now it's just around the corner.
