This is one of my favorite hibiscus. I can't say I love hibiscus, but I cannot deny the fact that it fills the garden with much needed color all through the year. These are prone to pest attacks, aphids and white mealy bugs being the main culprits. One needs to be on the watch constantly as these bugs could kill your plant or bush and spread rapidly to other plants. This is one reason why I keep these plants further from my veggies and and vines. However on cold mornings like today this flower lifts up your spirits and warms your heart.

It’s a beautiful color. I have pink and white hibiscus at my other house and haven’t had an insect problem, yet!

You are right about the white mealy bugs. ...Are the like small cocoons....Why do they attack hibiscus particularly? This happened with me and no amount of cutting the branches stopped them spreading and killing other plants. How do you get rid of them

@responsiveme Spray dish soap and oil .. use a fine sprayer outlet.. Mix one cap full to one liter of water.. More will damage the plant.. and spray before sunrise or after sunset in warm weather.. the soap could burn the leaves. Make sure you spray the underside of the leaves too and in around the buds and stem tips were most of the bugs seem to multiply.
