Going freezer diving

I am about to sit down and make a list for tomorrow's trip to the grocery store. I decided to take a look in the freezer to see what I had before I started writing stuff down. I found a few things that needed to be tossed--old homemade pasta noodles that looked dried out, a freezer-burned piece of fish, green beans from the garden from like 2 years ago that were buried at the bottom. I also found some good stuff: 2 thick pieces of ham that I will use to make a quiche and a bunch of ground turkey that will be used for meatballs or meatloaf. I also have a whole chicken, chicken thighs, 2 NY strip steaks, and mahi mahi filets so I'm pretty much good for the entire week. I don't need to buy any protein at the store so that will save me money and also help to clear out the freezer. Win-win!

It is always good to check before ordering My maid was defrosting one of the fridges and got a pack of chocolates which I did not know they were there (lol)

We had frozen tomatoes in our freezer, from two years ago. We made a huge pot of chili, to use 1/2 of them. I'm glad it's finally gone!

There's some old frozen veggies too. I will try to use them in my breakfasts.

My issue with the freezer is that I don't know what is mine, and what is roomie's. We are supposed to have separate shelves..which worked well with the previous tenant..but I think our food has gotten intermingled. He never really eats out of it anyway. I bet he doesn't even know what is his.

I buy meat when I find it on sale. Then I stock up.

That sounds like our fridge sometimes. Our freezer gets cleaned out pretty well, especially when we have to reorganize it when a good sale of meat happens. Our fridge ends up getting some interesting "science projects" at times. Thankfully it gets cleaned out almost once a month but sometimes we just forget.

My fridge is cleared out regularly but I tend to pack the freezer so I don't always see what is at the bottom

I hate having to throw away food myself but also just had to get rid of a bag of fresh green beans. They went bad so fast. Ugh

The best time to check the fridge is on weekends. For the reason that we can able to know which food to buy for the next whole week.

That is good news for you. I usually stare into my fridge and my freezer and think that I have nothing to eat even though the food is looking right back at me.

That's great. Could you cook the freezer burned fish for cats?

That's a good idea to look through the freezer before going to the store. We just got a small freezer for our apartment today, so I can actually buy more protein in the future, and other things.
