I love to have painted rocks all around the house especially on windows and garden ledges.. I haven't done this in about six months. I am planning on starting this right after the holiday season.. I know not many think of it as a craft or art form.. but its very relaxing.. sometimes I do this as I watch some sport on TV.. These rocks here are old and could do well with some fresh paint and varnish.. and the picture is not so great either.. poor lighting .. sorry about that.. Do you have some strange or not so common craft that you enjoy?

@LadyDuck its so much fun.. more fun than painting on canvas because this is laid back art,, no need for perfection..

@MarshaMusselman It's a typo, thanks Marsha. I would surely not give a painted rock as a gift, but to decorate my garden they would look nice.

It could be funny, or fun to try that, Anna? I'm not sure that you wanted to say funny. I think it could make for an interesting gift idea and I'd consider trying to do it too, but would need some instruction.

I think the lighting is fine and shows a fine piece of work. Have you ever thought about selling these? How did you come up with using rocks for a painting canvas or did you begin doing that in school? I don't see how you can watch a show and keep in your lines for the pictures.

@MarshaMusselman Nope, I have never thought of selling them these are just lying all around the house and garden.. I think I first saw some pictures on pinterest and started doing this a few years ago..

@sofssu So you are self taught, then? It doesn't seem like pinterest tells you how to do it, unless you saw a post about it there.

i used to love painting rocks. there is a park in my neighborhood where people hide painted rocks for kids to find. at least they used to, it's not so popular anymore. you say you place them on your windows, i can imagine they'd look so beautiful :) for me, weird crafts i do include painting palm tree seed pods to look like fish and making bottle cap earrings. sometimes i sell them for extra cash

Is it difficult to paint rocks? More difficult than painting on a paper?

@dya80dya Yes a teeny bit I guess, because the surface is rough and you need to prime it first. and the area is tiny, so you could smudge it if you are not used to it. But i think its just a matter of getting used to the medium.
