The lady we tried to help yesterday: was making this journey. Her car broke down. She had been in Mexico for five months, on a church mission, and was returning home. Her SUV was loaded, the carrier on top was loaded, and she was pulling a heavily tarped trailer, about 6 ft X 8 ft. loaded about eight foot high. Her husband is remaining in Mexico for a few more months. Traveling with her (her name was Susan) were four children, an adult dog, and five puppies. One of the children has a disability that appears to be like autism. He was non verbal. The man with the big white van and the shop, took the dogs and three of the kids to his shop to be warm. His name is Verlyn, his wife is Sandy. The handicapped boy wanted to sit with Bob in our car. The mom wanted to be with her car so she sat as well. Then Verlyn and Sandy took the family over to the cafe on the highway for lunch. Verlyn was talking with a friend or acquaintance of his in the Cafe. That friend, unknown to him, paid the entire tab for eight people to have lunch. We were able to get a towing company. The tow driver said he could even pull the connected trailer and would do it for no extra fee. After a conference they took her car to a Dodge dealership in Newton, Ks. Verlyn and Sandy hauled the kids and dogs. They found a motel that only charged a ten dollar pet deposit, and Susan and family and pets were set for the night. Verlyn stopped by to tell me all of this. The car had over 300,000 miles on it. I am grateful she took the wrong turn she did, as her correct route would not have had as many helpful resources. I believe God chose this as her right turn. She is going to continue heading North, in the middle of a winter storm advisory. It is good to have her car checked out. Those of you who pray, keep praying. I gave her my phone number. I hope she calls me when she is safely home. I am proud of my community who likes to help.
I had this post nearly written and my computer froze on me. Then I went to Bible Study. Before lunch yesterday I was putting some shopping bags in the car and...

I really believe that divine intervention brought that lady through your area where she was able to experience Good Samaritans first hand. I hope she gets home safely

There are still many Good Samaritans in the world and that includes you. That was very kind of Verlyn and Sandy and the tow truck driver who all went out of their way to help a person a need. You and the unnamed friend of Verlyn did you part as well. May you all be blessed. A good deed comes back to you a hundredfold at a time you would least expect. Thanks to @hereandthere for sharing this laudable experience of yours.

I will definitely be keeping her and her family in my prayers as they continue their journey north. I am glad that she broke down where you are so you were all able to help her and get her on the road again. You are true angels here on earth.

It took several people helping so that she could make her decisions on help. I have thrown a timing chain before, doing 70mph on the highway with just my daughter. Long before the days of cell phones. I was close enough for family to help. She really had no one except the kindness of strangers.

@GardenGerty We have broken down a number of times when travelling and being far from home. We have met some pretty amazing people who have gone out of their way to help us so I know how much she must have appreciated all the you all did for her.

I'm really surprised that her husband allowed his wife and 4 children to travel such a long distance and in winter by themselves. I hope they make it home safe and sound.

It does make you wonder. Maybe she just did not want to stay and said she was leaving. She also said her road side assistance would not cover her in the US.

God had His hand in this and directed her to the right place. There are no accidents, there is a purpose for everything.

Looks like things are going to work out. The weather will be especially challenging for them on their trip. This is a good story about being in the right place at the right time. I hope she gets home safe and sound. I will say a prayer for them.

What guardian angels you all were to this lady. But what a trip she was undertaking on her own.

Definitely don't think she would've had as many kind people to help them. And hope they make it back home safe and sound.

I have not heard anything yet. I am not sure how long it would take to drive to Ontario from Kansas. It took her two days to drive from Mexico to Kansas. Texas is a huge state to drive across.

She is indeed fortunate her car broke down where you and others were willing to help. God was good to her and also gave you and the others a chance to make a difference in her life when she really needed you.

I agree with you, Heather, that it had to be God directing her path. It's great that so many people stepped in to help her out in that way especially since her husband stayed behind. I'm sure it would have been daunting with her entourage for her to try to figure everything out in a different location where help would probably not have been quite so visible. Thanks to hereandthere for suggesting this one.

Yes, I appreciate @hereandthere for having such good suggestions. I do not think it was a wrong turn at all. As I was discussing with someone else, throwing a timing chain at highway speeds can do a lot of damage.

I did not do much, except reassure her. I also was able to talk intelligently with her about her son and it did not phase any of us that he was non verbal and mentally handicapped. This is the type of student I used to work with.
