Do you pack too much when you go somewhere?

I'm packing for a weekend in Helsinki, leaving work early tomorrow to catch the plane so I'm packing now. I usually manage to pack just the things I need, but I always have to stop myself from putting in too much. I have packed some woolen clothes I might not need, it's supposed to rain and plus degrees, but you never know. And if the wind is really icy, wool is good. How about you? Do you pack too much when you travel, or do you get it just right? Or don't pack enough and end up buying things, I've done that a few times too.

@Torunn I make sure to pack enough underwear (even extra) but otherwise I will just wear a shirt or a pair of socks again.

@NJChicaa For me, that depends on what I've been doing. If I've been hiking all day, I can't wear it again. If I've been strolling around in a town it's OK

We usually travel as a family, as in long drives. So, I pack my 'whole house'. :-D

I remember that from when I was a child and we drove on holiday in Europe. We didn't have a very big car so getting everything in was quite a job.

I try to balance between preparedness and too much. I probably pack more underthings than is necessary.

Assuming this is not heavy woolen underthings it won't be too heavy though. I'm right trying to decide if the weather forecast says waterproof jacket or thick jacket, because both'll be heavy

@Torunn I think a waterproof jacket would be more preferable. You can also pack some warmer things like woolen socks, a nice sweater and a good pair of thick pants (trousers, jeans, leggings). You might be able to get around not having a thicker, cold weather jacket.

Thank you! Staring at weather forecast now, it's a difficult time of the year to decide which jacket to wear

I always say, pack as much underwear as if you think you are going to pee yourself everyday haha As for other clothes, I always try to bring a few extra pieces just incase I don't feel like wearing a certain outfit or something happens to the clothing I am wearing. Accidents happen so it is always good to just pack a little extra.

I used to pack extra for just-in-case-cases. Am trying to make up my mind what to wear for the next few days now, it's not as if my friend or her dog is going to mind. If I go somewhere and plan to go out in the evening to eat or to a consert I might pack some extra pieces, for the just-in-case-cases :-) But I need to buy new underwear so I might end up not packing enough of it this time
