Signs From The Dead

After my husband died but before he was buried, the church where the funeral service was going to be held put on a charity concert. My daughter said "Come on Mum, why don't we go and show our support for the church?" I didn't really feel like going anywhere, but since I'd been pretty much confined to the house while my husband was ill, I agreed. While we were there we bought some raffle tickets. The first prize was won by someone sitting in the pew directly behind us, but we won the second prize. (A meal for two in one of the best restaurants in the area). I'm not one of those people who believe in an afterlife, but my daughter is, so she said it was a sign from her dad and that he was watching over us. I countered this by saying that if that was the case he would have made sure we got first prize, not second! She came back with "He was getting his aim right and just missed us at his first attempt". When we decided on a suit for my husband to be buried in, I went through the pockets just in case there was anything in them. I didn't find anything, but my daughter went through them as well - she found a £5 note. She insists that her dad put it there especially for her. (I'll admit that it was odd that I hadn't found it). Since then she's seeing these 'signs' from her dad everywhere, and as they bring her comfort that's fine by me. However, I'm far too down to earth to give them any credence myself. What do you think? Photo is of my daughter with her dad.

I probably would have thought the same as your daughter, I like thinking they are somewhere in the cosmos looking out for us. Your daughter looks exactly like you in the picture you posted of you and your husband when you were young. Beautiful photo

You really believe that? All the billions and billions of people that have ever been in the world are all 'out there'? Yes, my daughter does resemble me

I believe they are looking over us from above in so many ways. I've had a lot of "signs" from my mother and father. They give me such comfort. I'm with your daughter on this one!

I am with you on this. Anyway if your daughter has those thoughts you should let her have them.

Oh yes, she's entitled to her beliefs, I certainly wouldn't mock her for them. I'm pleased that they comfort her, she adored her dad.

I buy what she is saying because I've been thru it just after losing my own Dad. Daddies and daughters have such a special and unique bond, there is no other like it in the world. They both look so happy together in the photo.

@jaboUK And that's just it. I feel the same "special" way when I have a dream with my Dad in it or have something happen that makes me think that he is thinking of me.

I don't really know what to think about these kinds of things but certainly if it gives your daughter comfort, that's a great thing.

That's so true Judy - her belief is helping her get through her grief. She and I just have different ways of dealing with it.

I do think I have a guardian angel, as I have been in quite a few scrapes that might have had disasterous consequences. My deceased grandfather's were super people..and I like to think the angel I have on my shoulder is one or both of them.

@jaboUK Everybody has to go sometime. No one is immortal. Both of them were in their 90's when they passed.

@jaboUK I totally agree. Any way that he can get comfort is great. Who's to say that he doesn't really see her.

I'm more inclined to believe as you do, but if it comforts and supports your daughter in her grief then it can only be a good thing. What does your son think?!

My son thinks exactly the same as me - he's very like me in character, my daughter is only like me physically. My son adored his dad too but he's had no 'signs'.

Well I am a believer, I have had many signs from my son since he passed and his brother before him. Some people don't believe but I do. I am glad she is finding signs from her dad, it is comforting when it happens.

I'm glad that you have been able to get some comfort too Cindy. My comfort comes from holding him in my heart, though of course I know that you do that too.

@jaboUK I will always hold them in my heart, what made me a believer was when my first son passed. Derek and Jered were identical twins, Jered passed at 8 wks from SIDS. When Derek had children, his son at around 1 1/2 was sitting with me one day and he was looking off and put his arms up for someone to pick him up, he called out daddy. Ashton and I were the only ones home. When his daughter was born, she was playing peek a boo with someone around the corner, I asked who she was playing with and she said daddy. She and I were the only ones home, I knew it was Jered and that he had to look just like Derek for them to say that. Now that Derek has passed at 31, I know they are still both with me as they give me signs all the time.

That's nice that you enjoy getting those signs. My husband often pops into my thoughts but I regard that as only natural and not as a communication from him.

I must say I am with you in your thoughts too but I think it is a comfort for your daughter and it is helping her come to terms with such a great loss. I guess we are just older and wiser. Mind you I laughed at the aim sentence. Brilliant! Glad you were able to get out. It is so difficult to be around people when you want to be on your own with your thoughts. It probably did you good though Janet.

@jaboUK True Janet as it is not going to bring him back but you can have your special moments together with your thoughts. You have to force yourself to see other people. I guess we are just more worldly and grounded than your daughter is but it would be cruel to take those thoughts away from her!

You have a lovely daughter. I believe in the afterlife, as in heaven and that I will go there one day. However, I don't believe in signs from those passed on. I'm glad your daughter does. I'm sure it gives her comfort with her father passed on.
