When he joined Boston Legal, I lost all respect for him. He plays such a dorky person on that show. I hate to see someone who was a good actor take roles that are just ignorant.

William Shatner - William Shatner is the role of Capt. Kirk.
I think he is a good actor, but not very good. He's like many others but he had the great luck to be chosen as Capt. Kirk in the Star Trek series.

good in Star Trek, origanally, less so in the later films. Great at sending himself up - saw the clip of him performing Rocket Man today (it's on youtube). If it wasn't for the the way he performs the chorus, especally the lines "I'm a Rocket Man", and the 3rd "dancing Shatner" you'd swear he was taking it entirely seriously.

I don't think I would go as far as saying that Shatner is a great actor, but I was a fan of his role as Cap. Kirk, and I have liked him on Boston Legal recently. I was never a fan of T.J. Hooker, so I can't claim to know how well he did on that show, but his body of work doesn't lend to my opinion of him being a great actor.

No, no. Shatner is a good actor, but he's not a great actor. A great actor would be...Helen Mirren, Orson Wells, Sir Robert Stephens, Peter O'Toole, Gregory Peck, etc., etc. I'm afraid that Shatner is just way too much of a ham to be a truly great actor. But that's okay, because I love a ham! I love his work in Star Trek, Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. The younger he was, the more he had...and now that he's older, he's really mellowing. It was those '70s and '80s years that really worried me. He's getting back his touch, and I'm really very happy for him.

I'm afraid my irony (as well as my Colbert reference) was misunderstood.
