Lengthy Posts

A couple of days back I started a discussion on mylot. So far it has received 21 responses. If someone responds to my post ,I feel grateful to them as they help me reach the payout.I feel like returning them the favour by visiting their posts. Yesterday I went to the profile of one of those who had responded to my post .But I could not respond to even one of their posts. The reason was, their posts were too lengthy to be visited and responded to by a person like me who lacks time. I found their posts had received very few responses. Does it mean users don't like or have time to visit or respond to long posts??

@Torunn @Gillygirl @Shivram59 The other day I received a complaint by a member who scolded me for writing long posts. It is a sad fact that the average myLotter has the attention span of a mayfly.

But it's no one forcing anyone to read long posts! That's really stupid. I find posts here I don't find interesting but I don't tell people off for not writing posts I like

@Gillygirl And there is always the possibility of moving on... Nobody has to read posts which are too long for their liking.

Length is not popular here. Serious subjects are not popular. Don't write a literary gem or scientific treatise. Write about animals, what weirdness your neighbors are up to, how you knocked a can of paint over on yourself, or whatever. And don't make any paragraph too long or make the whole thing too long. On the internet, you need eye candy, an attractive arrangement, lots of white spaces, anything interesting including photos or images.

It is true. I have seen many long posts or serious posts that didn't get much attention. I don't think that this is right site for those things. Most people prefer to read something shorter and lighter. I once read a discussion where a member asked: Do you prefer short or long discussions, and almost everyone who responded wrote: short posts.

@akalinus Yes, I think that is the best thing to do. Many of the posts I have written on other sites wouldn't work on this site. They are too serious. Here I mostly write about things that happen in my life now or things that happened in the past. I also write about my hobbies like books.

@Porcospino So, knowing this about our audience, we need to write shorter, light-hearted posts for them and save the more serious pieces for a different audience.

I think people either lack time or the patience to read and respond to them. If it's interesting I don't mind a long post.

I don't mind a long post as long as it is interesting to read. I know a few users here who write long posts and still are in top rated ones.

Yes, it seems that members do not like long posts. I made an experiment Even on short discussions, some members respond to the title of the discussion, not the question posed to them in the discussion itself, which says that most do not read the written

@LowRiderX I agree.Very few people visit long posts.Mylot is a site where we share very simple posts .It's not a site for serious and long topics.I agree with you that many users respond to titles of posts.

@LowRiderX Let me tell you one thing.English is not my mother tongue.I'm just a learner,a student of this language.I use mylot to practice new words and phrases that I learn while reading English newspapers and books.Mylot is the site that has provided me with a platform to express ( or,try to express ) myself in this foreign language.

@Shivram59 Sadly, most people are looking through the money to write something as soon as possible. And this is the ideal site to learn something, to see something new, which probably most will never have the opportunity to see live, nor knows there is

I think long posts that could equal several chapters in a book are too long for this forum and get boring and turn off the reader. Most of us come here in our spare time. We could use it interacting with ten people with short, but interesting topics or one person with a long and drawn out post. Which one would you choose? I'd go with the ten. I'd rather chat with ten of my friends vs. just one.

I am guilty of making longer posts or making posts that are very niche. I basically used this place as a journal now. If people want to know what I am doing in my life, they can read my posts. If they don't care to read about my breakfast, what I am working on, or any other tale I am telling then they don't need to read and that is okay. I will admit, I don't read every long post, but I do make an attempt if it is something I am interested in! I think that is how everything should work, if you are interested in what they are talking about it, read it. If it something you don't care about, skip it! They won't know. Maybe just give them a like to show you were there and give support, you don't always need to comment.

Many people prefer short posts. I will read a long post if I am interested in the topic, but many people prefer short posts which are easy to read and easy to relate to. I have seen some interesting discussions with few responses. I think that they received few responses because they were long and serious. They weren't bad discussions at all , they were just not the type of posts that people are looking for here.

I like to read and respond to those that interest me. Of course, they should not be long-winded, beating about the bush. I like to post my discussions to get some meaningful response. If everything is superficial, then there will be no fulfillment. So, I feel it is more about retaining the interest in what we post - siva

Lengthy posts are tiresome to read, it's kind of time consuming to read something very long. Short and specific phrases are much preferable.
