Reading and Editing

It's a good thing I decided to read through the manuscript before I handed it back to the publisher. With all the suggested edits, some things were missed, especially punctuation. I've also added a couple deleted sections back into Thread of Evidence. As a detailed writer, it goes against my way of writing to just sum up a section. For the most part, the accepted suggestions have stayed in place. It's going fast as I'm already on chapter 11. I looked up content editing this morning so I would know what's coming my way. It's a heavy edit. That's the best way to describe what I'm going to go through. I'm keeping that in mind as I read through the manuscript. I know I said I didn't know how they could take the manuscript down further than they did when I started this edit. Now, I don't know what they're going to suggest with the content edit and hope it won't be dumbed down more than they already did. Yes, that's why some of the suggestions have been rejected and put back. I will not allow anyone to make my manuscript something a person will gag on as they read it. It would be okay for those who love reading those mindless romances, but I want something better than that when this is finished. I keep remembering what my publisher said in our meeting, she agreed with all the suggestions from the editor. That was before I saw what the editor suggested. We will compromise. How is your day? Thanks for reading.

I can't imagine what a writer has to go through before a book is finally published. I would imagine that the more successful the writer becomes the more they are left alone.

@just4him The editor wants the book to be a good seller and he has some ideas on what would sell.

That might be the case as they know what the editor will look for. I'm still brand new to all this editing.

I will have a relaxed day. I already ate a lunch made of nice heated leftovers. Tomorrow things will be heavy though.

@just4him I´ll have to help Claudia because of her shoulder. I offered to be her cook. Later on, I´ll come home and Juan Pablo will take me to the home depot to see some things I have to buy for my bath remodeling.

It's your book and though it's good to listen to the advice of the professionals, ultimately you should be the one who decides what stays and what goes.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm reading it through. I've made corrections I missed in every readthrough/edit. Rejected a couple of suggestions I accepted before, and taken out a couple of bits that weren't even suggested before, but overall it didn't work. So, It's going well and I'm happy with it.

Yes, they're in the mindless category, but also the best selling of all genres. I think because it doesn't take much to write one.

If your book is going to be so butchered as to alter your vision, then there's no point publishing it.
