Easter Egg Hunt Was a Bust

This morning we took my son to the Easter Egg hunt that was held in the park in our town. It was supposed to start at 11. We got there only a few minutes after, and ALL of the eggs were already taken. They either started earlier than announced, didn't have many eggs, or people were greedy. I did see a few kids with baskets full of eggs. They should have set a limit so that kids didn't end up going home empty handed. Oh well. We took Eli to get an icee/slushie instead. At the store, we saw one of our old neighbors, who is kind of like another grandma to Eli. That was a nice treat as well. Hope you have all had a better day before Easter (or just Saturday). Photo is mine, the eggs we dyed last year. I haven't uploaded this year's egg photos yet.

My husband's service club used to sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt on the day before Easter Sunday in our little rural village, and I can tell you first handed, that people are just greedy. And when they say the time, it is sharp, and our experience was that people get really upset if its a few seconds late. I'm sure that he enjoyed his ice treat, and he'll get candy from the Easter Bunny I'm sure. Happy Easter.

That is good that they used to do that! Sorry to hear they were greedy there too! We should have figured to get there early and that people would be greedy, because we see the greediness every year on the 4th of July. Yes, he will get a basket full of goodies in the morning :) Happy Easter to you too!

That is awful! They should have set a limit and stuck to the start time. I'm sure Eli wasn't the only disappointed child.

Thank you, and yes I definitely agree!! Oh yeah, Eli was not the only one...I know there were others that came after us, and I saw a bunch of kids leaving in tears.

I have been to egg hunts where there were so many kids and the adults ran around crying babies and filling their baskets. I remember the one year my kids crying because they didn't get any as those adults left with a basket full. I was so disgusted. You showing up a few minutes after it started though is unfortunately probably why your son didn't the any eggs . Gotta be there at least 10 minutes early as those events always start right on time and then the kids run as fast as they can to find eggs.

@MommyOfEli2013 here they had probably 20 egg hunts the same day within an hours drive. Maybe next time go to a different one if there are more then one near you just in case that one didn’t put out many you won’t be disappointed again next year.

Yeah, that is very aggravating....that it seems to be that way! And yes....we know that for next time. But if we show up early and get none next time we'll never do it again!!

@shaggin Oh wow, 20 different ones? This is the only one I know of, but maybe there are others.

I don´t trust those hunts. We make our own at home. Most of the eggs end up in Sofia´s basket. Fortunately there´s a moment when she cannot eat more chocolate and she is then generous.

@MommyOfEli2013 I never dared take my kids to those public places for food. There are always bullies who will get everything.

Yeah, I wanted to give a try, but don't know that I will ever again. That's good that you make your own at home. And that is good that she gets to a point to where she's had enough and is generous!

Oh no, I am so sorry. That is not fair. Maybe Eli like this slushy and visiting with the neighbor just as much. Will you have an egg hunt at home ro somewhere tomorrow?

We are sorry too, didn't like to see him so disappointed. He did enjoy the slushy, and he misses the neighbor, so he enjoyed seeing her! We are going to my great-aunts for Easter, and they usually do an egg hunt for him and his cousin, they are the only little ones left to hunt eggs for now.

I would say there were some greedy kids. They should also divide areas by age for them to hunt the eggs. A 4-5 year old can't compete with a 8-10 yr. old.

They did divide it....two different areas; one for 1-5 and another for 6-10. Didn't matter though!

We had the same thing happen at our Church last week. Had a better than expected turn out. Tried to make sure all the kids had a chance but had greedy parents an kids that did not want to share, or give all the kids a chance to get eggs.

Yup, it definitely is not fair at all! And it is not always the kids that are the ones that are being greedy, but the parents.

This is why I don’t like public Easter Egg hunts! Small ones with family and friends are always nicer.

I couldn't believe our bad luck in regards to the egg hunt, but if they hold it again next year we will be there bright & EARLY. @ least Eli has the other egg hunt at his aunt's to look forward to, and he seemed fairly happy with the slushie as well. :)

That happened to us one year. We got there like a couple minutes late and it was all over . Luckily we were able to go to another park where they had an egg hunt a couple hours later, but the venue wasn't as plentiful as the other one . . . my daughter got maybe 3 eggs. My little son has seen sad kids who didn't get as many eggs and he enjoys giving away his eggs after the hunt.

Oh man, I am sorry to hear that! That is good that you were able to go to another one though a couple hours after. 3 is definitely better than zero! Still not a lot, but I would have been glad if my son could have got that many. That's sweet of your son to be that way!

Yeah, that is what I am starting to get....even when they throw the candy out at the parade for the 4th of July people are so greedy....and sometimes it is more so the parents than the kids!

It definitely was a sad sight to see....Eli loves to share, he's been that way from really early on....so I am sure he would have left some eggs and not hogged them all!
