Its past two months old now and so far I can see stabilized one than in the past days. There’s seems to be no more deaths anymore and everyone in the tank seems to be happily staying there. I was worrying that there were fish was sick but they are back and swimming active again. Every water change I do on a weekend always is a challenge for me physically but after every water change my fish does become more active like they appreciate the fresh water I place in the tank. With it my only concern is now the plants that seems to be still in adjustment stage since I can see some leaves not doing very well but I can see they are trying to adjust since i can see fresh shoots of leaves coming out which I think is a good sign they are replacing the old ones that are dying.

I have a friend whose aquarium was wiped out when one fish he bought was probably sick.

Oh yes that’s is a real risk that is why I do not add fish immediately and observe them for some time in the plastic when I am adding them.

@rsa101 one advice is to have a small aquarium for the transition of new fish like 1 week observation.

@Alexandoy That would be the ideal if you can have a spare tank to quarantine them. But you can just observed them for an hour or so to have it cleared for anything serious.

Everything seem to stabilize already, the algae problem has lessened on the glass and manageable on the plants now. I think that is the only thing I am concerned when will be the time the plants will be well adjusted and be able to fight off the algae proliferation.

@rsa101 Good luck with it. I'm sure with experience, you are getting better and better at being able to manage the algae.

A lot of weekend work this aquarium is. Someone told me that there must be enough oxygen in the tank, so the fish could breathe. Is that true? And the plant provide the air?

They call it water agitation. For Oxygen to mix with water, it should be circulated around the tank. Stagnant water can cause oxygen depletion. I also added CO2 injection in the tank for the plants to properly photosynthesize.

Fresh shoots are a good sign perhaps it's just shedding leaves, I would assume you have artificial sunlight or growlight in your tank?

Yes i have a built in light in my tank. I am also thinking that my lights may not be enough for the plants to grow. I was just concerned since the shedding is more than what is sprouting.

I remember my Boss before who cleans his tan after a month. He said it will not going to polute since the tank has this kind of I forgot what it’s called, the one that purify the water. Coz if he change the water a week or so the tendency is the fish will get sick easily.

Your boss must have a large tank and a good filtration system installed. I do weekly water change because my filtration is just small and debris could accumulate really fast so I need to clean the filter media. If I wouldn’t do that my fish might get suffocated with the waste they produce.

@JustBhem that’s why he doesn’t need frequent water change for that since the water doesn’t get easily affected.

I usually change water every weekends. I think every three days might be a little bit stressful for the fish already because everytime you water change the water chemistry also changes drastically and doing that every 3 days might affect the chemistry of the water that can also harm the fish well-being and the plants too.

@evans777 Although you can do that frequent water change when you have a sick fish and your water parameters is unstable then you need to frequently water change.

Well you should have to spare some time with it. You cannot just put the tanks with fishes and leave it at that. You have to be watchful of their welfare, feeding time and cleanliness of the tank.

I haven't been adding more fish more two months now. Sadly, i have not done much maintenance as it was before. I was reluctant to buy those plants and other rocks because it was too hectic for me. Oh I've gone lazy from doing more maintenance.

@Letranknight2015 Thanks i am now using a 10 gallon tank right now. This used to be mynold 5 gallon tank. I have found that its hard to maintain that small tank since it easily affects the water parameter and l have to make more maintenance.

Thanks I am happy to see the tanks is maturing already and there are less problems I encounter in the tank anymore. Before Algae would thrive more but now they are less visible on my glass. Cleaning is also not that heavy anymore since the debris is already minimal and my weekly cleanup and water change helps a lot.

@Janet357 Koi is usually a pond fish. They do not thrive well in aquariums or they get stunted if they survive on an aquarium. Sting ray can become an aquarium item if you have a very large aquarium to maintain. I know there is a fresh water specie of it and I have seen one on Youtube. Puffer fish I know can be cared for in a saltwater tank and it is more difficult to maintain that since you have to keep watch on the salinity of the water.

@rsa101 oh these are new to my ears maybe because I’m not fond of aquarium. i know, koi, sting ray and puffer fish
