I have already served in the military but I have three sons and I think that the all volunteer military is best, so I am opposed to re-starting the military draft. What do you think about this and why?

If they reinstitute the draft there should not be anyone left out. The mentally ill, handicaped, The one's to feeble to fight, the retarded. I an eledted offical son or daughter shouldn't be treated any differently than anyone else. Maybe they should go to the top of the list. I Joined the Naval Reserve in high school during the viet nam conflict. My classmates didn't, when they graduated and turned 18 years of age they were drafted and after they were trained some went to viet nam and some never came back. I should come back only if it is fair.

reinstating the draft is rediculous, what's the point of it? Are they planning another World War where everybody's help will be needed, I mean nowadayz with the advancement of military weapons they don't even need the half the people they already got in the service. I can understand filling out a form "just in case" but forcing people to serve whether they're needed or not would be a big waste of everyone's time and money.

Troops catching sleep while they can. - These soldiers are getting sleep when they can and will soon be going on pratol in Iraq. They are all volunteer members of the Army.
I have a son who is part of the new volunteer Army National Guard. The quality of the recurts is very good. I think we would have more problems if we reinstated the Draft. When I talk to military people overwhelming they tell me that they joined because they wanted to serve the country and it was a great opportunity for them. I have not talked to any soldier who felt that they had no choice or were forced to join because of poverity. I grew up with the Military Draft and there were so many exceptions that only the poor and uneducated were drafted. I would like to see some form of universial service, but I see that as becomming a way for politicians to give out favors to selected groups of people and it would end up as the poor being the only ones serving. I did talk to one soldier who was infavor of the draft. He said it would be nice to have some one to have a good political discussion with, because the soldiers are conservitive and they have no liberals to argue with. The new military is a great opportunity for some people and they have a chance to improve themselves through hard work. Isn't that the American Dream?

HELL NO! First, don't get me wrong about the military, as I served, and it really helped me out. HOWEVER, as I mentioned elsewhere, with all the jerking around our government does to our Vets, can you imagine just how much worse it would be, if the gov could force our people to join? Not until the government can handle the current system better, or they are willing to take big paycuts! The concept of a draft is WRONG! People who don't support a war are suddenly finding their rights ripped away from them! If they don't support a war, then they shouldn't be forced. Those that want to our welcome. Then again, maybe this is the sort of kick upside the head the country needs. When Vietnam was going on, tons of people were protesting it constantly, becuase they were at risk of *having to fight it.* Now that they don't *have* to, most don't care!
