My Garden

When the pandemic started I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get enough plants for my garden. All the garden centres and non-food stores were closed, so I decided to order online. I'd done this before and been disappointed at the quality and size but as there didn't seem to be any other option I went ahead. While waiting for them to arrive a discovered a roadside plant stall which operated with an 'honesty box', so there was no human contact. I was able to get some nice plants there. When the online ones arrived sure enough they were very small. To give you an idea, there were 70 plants in a 6 by 10 inch tray. Anyway, I went ahead and planted them. They were well behind the ones I'd got at the roadside, but they came good in the end. The result is as you see in the photo.

Your garden would look strange without your flowers. I'm glad everything came good in the end. The picture is lovely of all your plants.

A garden without flowers - not a garden in my eyes

@jaboUK I'm sure it's not. I love flowers, but sadly, flowers don't like me. Now, houseplants seem to do well. I just bought a mini rose bush. We'll see how it goes.

That's stunning! I'm sure that everyone who passes by remembers your efforts with joy! The neighbours must be well jealous (in a friendly sort of way, of course!).

Thank you so much. My neighbours across the road tell me they love the display without having to do any of the work! Not that I regard it as work, of course

Your garden is so lively and colorful as ever ! The honesty box for plants is an interesting concept - I have not seen that here (most likely people would not be honest about it ). I am just over the tiny plants you got online but wow, you must have the magic touch!

@jaboUK Oh my gosh that's terrible. Yes, along with the good guys in this world, there will always be the bad ones unfortunately.

Thank you. The honesty box can be abused - the other day I read about someone stealing all the farmer's produce and the honesty box too! Sadly there are always villains about.

You must have quite the green thumb to take those little seedlings and have these gorgeous flowers in just a few short months. Now.....how's your chemistry? Can you come up with a vaccine for us all?

@jaboUK Nope, it was mid-June the time I got back from Florida so all I have are the perennials that I have every year.

That is gorgeous!! I found a pack of nasturtium seeds that I put in the refrigerator... No idea how old they are, but they are doing amazingly well! When I remember to water them!

@jabouk Your plants always look spectacular. This is what I managed to grow - haven’t a clue what it is but it’s pretty. Also pleased with my cornflower and geraniums.

@jaboUK I wish I had the 'green thumb' like you do; although when I did have flower gardens all the local critters destroyed them.

I always love seeing photos of your garden. It is always so colourful. We saw lots of lovely gardens in England. They made ours look 'dusty' really.

That is a beautiful display of flowers! This year we had a bunch of our Tagetes from last year that self sowed, in fact more than enough so we did not need to buy new seedlings. Yours look like they are thriving as well.

@jaboUK I think sometimes it is also about luck, my French Marigolds (I just learned the proper English name for Tagetes, thank you) did not selfseed enough last year either, so had to buy an additional tray at the garden shop.

Yes, a lot of my French marigolds self seeded too but not enough for my needs.

Lovely flowers. I'm sure we can tell which were the smaller ones from this photo. It looks like you mostly plant annuals?

@jaboUK I will get one or two hanging pots per year with annuals but overall I prefer perennials because money used to be too tight for only annuals. And maybe because that's what my mom always had too.

They weren't too bad if you bought 20 or more of the same plant - which I did. But I still prefer to see what I'm buying.
31 Jul 20
@jaboUK They tell me it can be sent back if you don't like. Yes seems like you need to know your products. I've never shopped online before.
