You S.O.B!

I don’t know about you, but I had the best day of September so far. Meet Bertrumd and his son, Son of Bertrumd, or S.O.B. for short. Our wonderful son grew Bertrumd, a basil plant, and has been using it in this cooking all summer. Today, I was given the son of Bertrumd. which our son propagated. For some reason, our son also propagated a sister for S.O.B., which he is keeping for himself. We spent 2 hours outdoors with our son, laughing, discussing, and reminiscing. For those of you who know about the vast amount of money he made selling his beach house, he has decided what to do with some of it. He already gave a good portion to several charities that we all trust and love. He offered to give some to his brother for college expenses, but those are already taken care of by all the grandparents. He decided he will have work done on his antique Supra car, and will pursue his interest in buying a muscle car for investment for now. The rest will grow between savings and investments. As for me, I’m looking forward to making good use of S.O.B. in tonight’s dinner.

You knew we´d read your post with that title! I have grown basil plants for years, but I didn´t know they could be propagated by other means than by seeds. I love basil!

@DianneN Just don´t eat all the leaves at once. And if you you kill the poor S.O.B. tell the rich member of the family to go to a nursery for another. S.O.B. are around the corner. They are not that expensive

I was afraid the post would be removed and I wonder if those in other countries would know what it means. That son of ours turns everything he touches to gold! I hope I don't kill it like I kill everything else.

You're lucky to have him as a son. Congratulations for having someone like him. I haven't seen a basil plant in my surroundings, only buy the dried one for our cooking. This is best for our adobo recipe a classic Pinoy pork recipe.

We are so blessed to have him and extra blessed that he lives so close to us. We just love being with him!!! Fresh basil can be used just like dry, but has such a fresh and delightful flavor.

on the discussion title. I don't know that I've had fresh basil. I might have to grab a plant or two and grow it myself. Blessings to your son for donating some of his money!

S.O.B. looks happy and healthy. Why did he sell his beach house? I'm thinking of moving out of California and buying a fancier house than I could get here. I want an Eichler and I want it now! Why am I turning purple?

@marguicha Eichlers are less expensive than you might think. He was inspired by Frank Llouyd Wright, but the houses are not that much more expensive than others in a given neighborhood.

Thanks! I hope I don't kill the S.O.B.! He sold the beach house because some man with a family wanted it badly enough to give him 1 million above what he paid for it. He took the money and ran. Eichler the botanist? Yes, houses are very expensive in California and even in CT.

I love basil. I have a sweet basil, purple basil, and Thai basil. Good to hear your son made a profit selling his home, donated to charity as well as invest/save. Oh nice! What year is his toyota surpa!

@DianneN Yes! I know Surpas. My aunt drives one, 1994 Back in the day she’d pick me up from high school sometimes and all the guys go oooo. Then it’s my aunt and they’re like I love basils , super versatile! Woohoo!! Homes are on the rise and I’m glad he had a successful sale, that’s a nice investment too!!

@infatuatedbby If your aunt still has that Supra, it's worth a fortune! When my son drives his, he gets stopped by men, too. A policeman pulled him over just to look inside it. Many thanks!

Oh, wow! Basil is so versatile! My son uses this in Thai cooking, too. I use it in Italian dishes and salads. I will tell him about the other varieties. He made a huge killing of one million over what he paid for the house! Unbelievable! I don't remember what year his Supra is. I'm guessing 199? lol. Do you know the car?

Almost all my plants of basil are sprouting flowers. I will keep some for the seed and pinch off the flowers from the other plants, so they continue to develop leaves.
