Matilda's gone droving in Heaven

Some time ago now we met Matilda, a three-legged kelpie who was a great character. The loss of a hind leg never seemed to worry her and she enjoyed a great life on a farm. As she aged, she graduated to a bed in the kitchen rather than being a purely outside dog. We stayed on the property in south-west Western Australia for a few days and got to know Matilda and the other two Border Collies. We took photos of the family group and the dogs had to be part of it. That was fine for a while but then Matilda got tired of the whole ‘sit’ and ‘smile’ commands. She hobbled off about ten metres from the family, sat with her back to us and absolutely ignored any commands or coaxing. She had obviously had enough. Now she has passed away. Her family will miss her terribly.

It's awful when a beloved pet passes and so heartbreaking. I'm so sorry to hear this. May she rest in peace, the poor dog. I'm sure she lived a wonderful life.

She had a very good life with the family. Her last day, although they didn't know it, was spent on the beach.

Matilda will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her. Three-legs doesn't mean very much, to a dog that receives kindness and a beautiful life on a farm! Kobe hates a camera, taking his photo is a chore:(

I'm reading a book written by a vet and he says dogs have three legs and a spare. They manage very well most of the time.

It does seem that more people pass in November and December than at any other time @JudyEv .... well, deaths not related to covid that is.

I'm sorry about dear Matilda. I have a deep fondness for Kelpies and for sure Heelers. (Duh, huh?) They're such smart characters.

They are dogs that need to work, aren't they? The Border Collies were always trying to round up something.

@JudyEv we have had birds and cats. I was sad to lose our birds. But, when my cats passed, that was more difficult. We cannot have dogs where we live. Little Miss really wants one.
