Exorbitant Prices

United States

Yep. Not even in my dreams can I escape the rising cost of food. I don't remember a lot of the dream. I know I was meeting a friend of a friend who was getting married. I know we were at a restaurant for part of it and in a car for other parts. I know my friend was driving the car while hanging out the door. And I know the price of food was crazy expensive. I couldn't eat most of what was on the menu and a friend tried to convince me that I should splurge and go off diet for that one time. I ended up with french fries and a salad and that cost me $30.00. I didn't eat the fries, obviously, and the salad was nothing to write home about. I remember even the water (which was nice and refreshing) cost a few dollars! Gah dreams, can't I eat for free once in awhile?

Inflation is a nightmare ! We have totally not splurged on restaurant food in real life since earlier last year. I would scream if fries and a salad ended up to be $30!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Right. At that price, the fries and salad better come with steak, shrimp, and dessert !

I would boycott the restaurant if that happened to me. Not even in a fancy place should fries and a salad be $30

The sad thing, as that's reality for some, and could be the reality for the rest of us when taxes go up and more jobs are lost. I fully understand that we need to feed back into the economy, but not in this way.

I agree with you. It's not fair to a lot of people who have to sacrifice and possibly eat unhealthy foods just to survive.

I know they say it's cheeper to eat at home, or eat healthy, but those who say that aren't living from paycheck to paycheck. Or, if they are, they're lying . Don't get me wrong, I can get a healthy-ish meal for about 10 dollars (which isn't bad), but with prices going up that dollar won't streach as far.@ScribbledAdNauseum

@kaylachan I'm on the keto diet and prices for things like keto flours and sugars are ridiculous. Social programs like food stamps don't always give you enough money either. It's hard to stretch those dollars. I grew up eating freezer burriots, tater tots and stuff like it because we had to survive on what little they gave us.

@snowy22315 Oh right! Most restaurants don't even give you enough of those things on a salad either.

I must have been! Right, I mean I expect if there was something like capers, expensive cheeses etc the salad would be pricier.

You must've visited one of those high end restaurant. At least you don't need to wash the dishes in your dream as you're able to pay for the pricey salad and fries.

Yes, I am glad I did not need to wash the dishes in my dream. I'm afraid I would have broken the plates even in my dreams!

Wow, that was an outlandish price for salad and fries. Thank goodness it was just a dream.

I would not even think of paying that in real life. The salad was nothing more than lettuce with a few slices of tomato.

Obviously the rising cost of EVERYTHING these days was on your mind. I had a $50 gift card that I earned; and we went to Longhorn Steakhouse. The side order of Brussels sprouts was $5.29. Can you believe it? You can buy a heck of a lot of Brussels sprouts for $5.29. If I didn't have the card I would have never ordered them.

@LindaOHio That is much better. When we were going to the restaruants, we had one waitress who was always going above and beyond for us.

Oh wow! $5.29 is ridiculous for a side order! I've noticed the price of appetizers have gone up in recent years. At a mexican restaurant near me, a small bowl of guacamole is $4.99!

@ScribbledAdNauseum We got a friend of ours as our waitress last night; and she added the Brussels sprouts on as a side sub for $1.99. MUCH better!
