Have you heard of the mothman?

In Point Pleasant West Virginia, there is a real folklore built up about the mothman. In the 70's many residents saw this creature, supposedly supernatural with glowing red eyes that supposedly killed local dogs and livestock and chased cars. Some say it foretold a later bridge collapse. Others say it was nothing more than a Barred Owl. Whatever it was, it has been great for business in this small town in the West Virginia panhandle, even spawning a movie or tool. It is likely the only reason people go to Point Pleasant.

Well in this Halloween season, it seems right to write about supposedly supernatural stuff... There is alot to this story really, a TNT plant, Indian Burial grounds etc. Pretty interesting, honestly

@snowy22315 Is that a statue I see in the picture of him? I hope whatever it was it was just a tale or maybe not but hope it does not stalk their town anymore.

I wrote an article about Mothman for one of the writing sites once. It took a good bit of research. I don't believe there is such a creature. I think people's imaginations get away from them. One person describes something and the next adds something. So a legend is born.

Yes, I believe that is likely true.

@akalinus Well, they saw something. What that was, is a matter of opinion.

@snowy22315 I don't believe it is true but we all have our own opinions. For all I know, it might be true. Poor creature, if it is.

Yes, I have to get to that town some day and check out the books and so forth. I think the mothman legend probably keeps the economy of that town afloat.. It was probably the best thing that ever happened to them. I agree there is more there than meets the eye.

And, of course, there is the annual Mothman Festival. It was canceled last year and this, however, due to the pandemic.

Yeah, if they are famous enough, they certainly are. Some are just kind of like local legends and people in other places don't know about them.
