Senior moment #6,248 for The Horse

I've noticed an error I often make, both in writing and speech. If I've written about this before, let's call that senior moment #6,249.
I tend to think ahead when I write. Or talk. But often what I type, or say, edits out a key word or two, and I have to go back and correct it.
It most often happens when there's a similar letter, or sound, in what I was going to say next.
It just happened to me, and I decided to copy the sentence that led to tonight's senior moment.
I just typed the following comment to a fellow MyLotter:
"Retractable claws are a blessing with my kitty when she whaps me on the leg when she wants more attention."
I initially wrote something like:
"Retractable claws are a blessing with my kitty whaps me me on the leg when she wants more attention.
What happened to the "when she"? I was thinking ahead, typed "whaps me," and forgot to write "when she." It was the "wh" that threw me off.
Do you ever have this kind of thing happen? Am I destined for the scrap heap sooner than I think?
Photo is a selfie of me from a few days ago. I think I used it in this John Prine song video.

Yes, I've caught myself writing odd things lately and can't figure out why. (I just typed "whay" instead of "why". And, I've been typing "the" as "eht". It's really annoying. At least myLot underlines it in red so I notice I've done it. When I leave out words, that's more difficult to spot.)
I was going to ask you about that selfie but vanny screams at me if I do anything to tease someone about their age. (She wrote a full page rant about it a few days ago when Greg and I were playing.)

I think there's a gremlin or two that lives in the net that feeds on random letters, sometimes whole words. I've often seen that a "not" has been eaten from something I've typed, which changes the whole meaning. So I'll type a bunch of 'em now to hold 'em off: not not not not not

Leaving out words happens to me all the time. It's very frustrating but I usually just blame the keyboard.

Same here. Damn keyboard. Actually, I do occasionally spray my keyboard, or letters I keep mising (sic), with generic De-Oxit. I think it helps a but (sic). But most of my mistakes are just user error. The two cited here "make sense."

I don't think that it is an age thing. Technology, particularly the internet, has affected how our brains work. It has removed from us the need to exercise various skills that previous generations routinely used. One example of this is that most of us cannot figure out how to get from Point A to Point B without GPS even when the route should be obvious.

@TheHorse There are some areas that I know that are like that. Thankfully, I know my way around them, since my husband would be hopelessly lost otherwise.
My husband is fairly GPS dependent. I don't know what he would do if we lost that option for any period of time.

This happens to me all the time and notice it only when I get back to read someone's response or comment

@allknowing No doubt. As @FourWalls sometimes sings, "it's cold on the the shoulder/but you know we get a littler older/every day."

It happened to me this morning on the phone. In my defense, I was bleary-eyed, as the phone call took me out of bed. I meant to say "eggs and bacon" and said "eggs and breakfast." As long as we correct ourselves, I suppose it means that both language centers in our brains are working.

I know that. I see that in my grandparents. They say, it happens. My grandmother says, to ba ble to minimize forgetfulness, you should keep yourself reading and talk to someone all the time. Just sharing what my grandmother used to say

Don't feel bad. I have more and more senior moments everyday. Thankfully they mostly happen at home cuz sometimes when it happens out in public it can be quite embarrassing

You are funny, Mr Horse. I think I've done similar, though. Not just missing out words but not noticing when spellcheck decides that I meant something else. Just lately, I think my memory is going. I keep doing things and genuinely not remembering I've done it only seconds later (or being certain I've done something I haven't). Sometimes, it doesn't even get to later as I forget what I'm doing while I'm still doing it.
At my place of work, we have a small group affectionately termed 'geriatric corner'. I'm the youngest of the geriatrics. I'm quite certain we're all going round the bend.

I always have to reread what I write before I hit post. Maybe it's not a senior moment but just that your brain is faster than your typing fingers?

I sometimes think of the word but instead of that word I end up typing its homonym. Like, for example, instead of "I woke up" I will write "I walk up" but then I will quickly notice that and correct it. Or I will read a word as if I wrote it but I didn't write it at all.

I always think faster than my fingers will type. I often have to go back and fix something. I especially hate when I find a typo after I've already posted a Discussion. They must be perfect!!!
