Buckeye Butterfly Trapped in Screen Room

Both cats were trying to get to this beautiful Buckeye butterfly. He somehow got trapped inside the screen room. Probably when I opened the door. I never even noticed him but the cats sure did. They were trying their best to capture this beauty with their paws. Thankfully they were unsuccessful. I went in with my handy little butterfly net and released him in the garden. There are many blooms left there for him to enjoy. A nice quiet day in the neighborhood here today. Still waiting on more thunderstorms soon. Hope your day has been good. Photo is mine.

I am glad you got him before the cats did! How are you feeling these days?

I had to be quick. I was feeling better and overdid it today with a few projects. I get so mad at myself. When I start feeling better I just do more and it gets me every time. I have an appointment soon. We will see how I am. Thanks for asking.

Glad you could rescue the butterfly before the cats could get it. We had rain all day yesterday and a thunderstorm. My power went off and came on this morning. It’s also raining today.

I am too, I had to be quick. They were going after him. Never lost power here but lots of rain the last few days. And that is ok with me. Enjoy your night.

I'm glad you were able to rescue this lovely butterfly (looks huge!). It has cooled down and we finally got some rain - no more heat wave (for now).

@CarolDM We see "big" swallowtails (I think) here - that is probably no bigger than 3" - so anything more would be ginormous to us! I hope the cool sticks!

He wasn't too big, I zoomed in to get the photo. About 3 inches across. Ready for cool.

@much2say Yes I have shared those as well. The yellow and the black ones visit each year. 90s return at the end of the week.

Wow, that's a beauty of a butterfly. No thunderstorms here thankfully and it looks like it'll be sunny for the next few days. Nows the time for me to wash some of the fall and winter heavy stuff.

I'm never ready for winter and hopefully this will be another mild one. I no longer wish for snow like I used to.

They are pretty. Love their markings. Easy to identify for sure. Rain coming again soon. All week. But that is ok, keeps temps down. Get ready for winter. Tis the season very soon.

He is a beauty isn't he! I got him just in time. So pretty in the garden. Quiet for sure. And I was doing good. Then started doing a few things around the house. And maybe overdid it. We will find out at my next appointment. Thanks for asking.

Good the kitties were unsuccessful. He's too pretty of a butterfly to become a kitty snack. lol

@CarolDM I often even feel bad for the mice Cal gets all the time. He plays with them a bit before he kills and eats them, and the mice always look quite terrified.

@porwest I had a cat that was an outside cat. She would only catch the mice and bring them to me, still alive.

I had to be fast. They were both eyeing it. Thunderstorms but they didn't last. Lots of rain.

Pretty butterfly! Never heard of a buckeye butterfly. Attending Ohio State this is the only buckeye I'm familiar with.

My hubby would have envied you for having a magnificent Buckeye butterfly in your house for a visit. Magnificent capture, Carol! Tuesday: Two adult sons came by for lunch. One will head back to his rental house in Melbourne.

I would rather you catch him than the cats who might make a snack out of him. I can see how the butterfly got its name.
