Do You Have a Medicine Cabinet In Your Bathroom?

I have a half bath on my first floor. It's a decent size with a toilet and pedestal sink. It's convenient for sure but the one thing missing is a medicine cabinet or a vanity for storage. About a year ago we bought a tall standing cabinet which fits in the corner and it holds hand towels, toilet paper, hand soaps and on the bottom shelf we have basket with all sorts of lotions, creams, and the basic first aid supplies. I also have two full baths on the second floor and neither of them have medicine cabinets mounted in the wall above the sink. The types of medicine cabinets I'm referring to are usually above the sink or toilet and have a mirror door which opens to a small space for prescriptions and whatever else you would need to store inside it. I'm assuming the newer houses don't have medicine cabinets anymore and everything is stored in either a vanity or elsewhere. There are times when I miss having a medicine cabinet but most of the time I don't until I thought about it this morning So, do you have a medicine cabinet in your bathroom? Are you the type of person who would look in someone elses if you were using their bathroom//

No, but there is a bathroom pantry closet in the main bath that holds medicines vitamins etc. I could start storing my towels in there as well, because there is room. Right now they are in the vanity.

I wish I had a pantry type closet in my master bathroom. As nice as my master bathroom is they didn't make any provisions for storing towels, etc.

@Marilynda1225 Yes, I really like the closet in there. The one complaint I have about the bathroom is that the vanity drawers don't pull out in mine, but they do in the other bathroom...go figure...why not put the same type of vanity in both baths?

@snowy22315 that is unusual that both bathrooms don't have the same type of vanity. Not having drawers that pull out sounds counterproductive

Yes, we have medicine cabinets. They are chock full of stuff we never use. No, I don't look in other people's medicine cabinets as a rule.

I do miss having a medicine cabinet but I guess mine would be full of things I wouldn't use either

I don't have a medicine cabinet in my bathroom, either. There's a great big mirror where you'd expect one to be. So I keep first aid stuff in a drawer and my meds in a bread box in the kitchen. Speaking of which, that's where the medicine cabinet was in my childhood home.

I also have a big mirror where a medicine cabinet would be. Your medicine cabinet was in the kitchen in your childhood home?

Yes, we have a medicine cabinet in the bathroom but our prescription meds are kept in our bedrooms. We DO have friends who might "help themselves" if we left meds in the bathroom. I've lost one bottle of Soma (I take them for migraines.) to someone who felt they needed them more than I did. I'm not risking that happening again. Nope. I consider a medicine cabinet "private" to the people living in that house. It isn't my business what they have in their medicine cabinet.

I really don't need one in my bathroom and keep all my medicines etc in the vanity in basket but there are times when a medicine cabinet would come in handy for convenience.

Yes, I have one, but someone needed to point it out to me when I moved in here as it looks like a lone mirror on the wall. No, I don't peek inside someone else's medicine cabinet.

A lot of those medicine cabinets are disguised behind mirrors these days. That's what I had in my other house.

@Marilynda1225 Someone pointed it out to me or it might still be a mirror in my bathroom.

Keeping medicine in bathroom is bad as the humidity ruins it so I keep mine in our kitchen. However we do have a medicine cabinet that holds our toothbrushes, tooth paste, shaving lotion etc. If I was home I would show you a photo of it.

@Marilynda1225 ahh that’s what it’s called a vanity I was thinking that but then was thinking that might be what around the sink is called. This is what my vanity looks like.

Those medicine cabinets do come in handy for the items you mentioned. I have a vanity with two big cabinets and drawers in the middle so it's great for storage and keeping stuff off the counter part between the sinks (I have 2 sinks in my master bathroom)

We had old small ones when we moved into this house. We installed bigger ones into the main bathroom, but essentially they are like the old fashioned medicine cabinets. The half bath still has the old one (oh geez we have never done anything to update that bathroom!). I would never look in someone else's medicine cabinet (the only person I know who does that is MIL ).

I dont' miss having a medicine cabinet except in my half bath. Maybe not for medicines per se but for all the other little things you need in the bathroom and have nowhere to put them. I guess it's hard for some people not to peek and LOL at you MIL

Speaking of that..it annoys the life out of me Marilyn. In this new apartment..no medicine cabinet..a nice mirror a big one in the bathroom and a vanity underneath the sink..but I prefer the stuff to be at eye level, not under the sink. Also in the hallway is a small closet with shelves..so that is where I put towels and medicines and lotions etc. Oh to be filthy rich and have everything exactly as you want it.

You and I are so alike in many ways. I also like things at eye level and hate having to bend down every time I need to get something My dream is to build my own house and have it all just the way I want it (notice I said dream )

We have a big 3 sectioned medicine cabinet behind our mirror. We have a large linen closet in the bathroom for towels and everything else. I keep very little in the medicine cabinet other than medications that I take daily and his shaving stuff and bandaids.

I have a huge mirror on the wall behind the sinks (I have 2 sinks in my master bath) but no hidden cabinets behind. I have to keep all that kind of stuff in the vanity. The one thing missing from my master bathroom is a linen closet so there's nowhere to keep the towels. It's the one thing I thought was an oversight on the builders part but I didn't realize it until after I had moved in and had to figure out where I would keep my towels. We have a nice size linen closet in the hall by the other bedrooms and bathroom but I don't want to walk down the hall for a towel every time I need one

We have good-sized medicine cabinets in both bathrooms with mirrored doors but, over the basin, they make it hard to wash your face without splashing water everywhere.

From previous houses that I've lived in the medicine cabinets were above the sink too. The mirror doors do hide the cabinet. In my master bathroom I have two sinks with a huge mirror that goes along the wall behind both sinks. It does get splashed when using the sink and I'm always having to wipe the mirror clean.

Yes, we have a medicine cabinet in our bathroom, with bandaids and cough/cold remedies. There are a few pain relievers, we barely ever use. We bought ours at Menard's when we started remodeling nine years ago.

There is no medicine cabinet in the house l occupy presently, but l remember having them in previous homes. I won't look unless l am desperately in need of something - but l might ask the owner of the house first.

This is the first place I've lived that doesn't have the standard medicine cabinet mounted on the wall above the sink. Sometimes I miss the convenience of having one but I've managed to find a solution anyway for the items I would normally keep in a medicine cabinet

There are many drawers and cabinets in the two bathrooms here. I guess one of the drawers could be called a medicine drawer.

I have a large vanity in my master bathroom with plenty of cabinet space and drawers in the middle. I do keep most of the things that would be in a traditional medicine cabinet in those drawers.

I have a medicine cabinet but it's not in the bathroom (bad humid place where to keep medications). It is downstairs in the basement. I would never look inside someone's else medicine cabinet.
