Do you try to keep your boss happy?

Strange ...strange!! People here at my workplace try to keep the boss happy not through their work but through giving the gifts and by doing his personal works. I hate being not liked by my boss because I don't like it and try to get appreciated by the work and not by this. How do you find your boss? Is he/she like my boss?

I am retired and in the past my Boss was my husband. Of course I tried to keep my "Boss" happy.

I think your co-worker is someone who is looking for face to win over the boss, and get a raise or promotion. Oh something that is not good, and unprofessional.

I think you are going about it the right way. I think buying him gifts if they like and appreciate his is nice but I’m thinking they are just trying to buy his friendship which is never good.

@sjvg1976 I really liked my bosses where I worked and she gave me gifts for my birthday. Maybe it is different where you are?

@shaggin Yes it is different here. Being in a core production our bosses always ask about targets and productivity, they don't talk about anything else.

You cannot be a friend to the boss. Also giving gifts to colleges is against the rules, if someone comes to know it, it definitely will cause a harm.

I'm so glad I'm retired now, so I don't have to put up with such cr_p. Back in the days when I was working, I keep everyone happy thru the quality of my work. That's it.

That's better, we should try to keep others happy through our work.

People make fun of suck ups like that around here. I'm sure it works a lot, but goodness, that's pathetic behavior.

not really no, the people I work for intermittently don't do anything to try to keep me happy, so I see no reason to.

when I worked my boss was younger and richer than me but there were a number of things that made my boss unhappy because the target was not achieved.

When I worked, I don't think any of my co-workers wanted to buy my bosses any gifts like that . We worked hard period . . . we didn't really get rewarded for that other than normal pay . . . so there was no sense trying to please them any other way.

I am neutral and respect everyone the same. I don't know how others do it though..like sucking up to the boss etc..

Such bosses are not worth to be bosses. We go to the office to work not satisfied the bosses personal whims.

I will work hard to gain the boss's recognition, but I am not very good at flattering. However, some colleagues like to flatter. If I feel that I do not like the boss's personality, then I will leave this company and find the work environment I like to work in
