A Mouthful of a Full Name

My niece used to say how mouthful it was to write her name. She has two names plus her middle and last names. There were times that she cried for writing too long on her pad of paper. I jokingly say that you can blame your parents for giving her a mouthful of a full name. Now, she is not complaining about it because everyone just calls her by the nickname. What do you think? Is it advisable to have a mouthful of a full name for a kid? Image Credit: static.vecteezy.com

All the kids in my family have short names but were all called a nickname while growing up.

It is also the same thing to us. Although some old folks especially women have two names during the Spanish era. We also have our nicknames.

@Shavkat It just makes sense to have nicknames that friends and loved ones call us.

I hope it is possible but the teachers at school require her to do it.

I also have a very long two first names and I did not complain why my name is that long. Now I am used to it but I introduce myself to my nickname than my real name because I feel it is just too long to have two names.

@Shavkat Yeah I think we don't have any choice since that was what our parents want for our name.

When she started to learn how to write, she keeps on whining about it. As she grows older, she was able to get used to it.

I understand tradition and all, but I would try to keep my child’s name fairly simple for their own sake.

This is what I was thinking, too. If I do have my own child, I would not do this.

The feeling is mutual. I do not want my child to feel being tortured by writing long names.

@LadyDuck I am sure you are like my niece about this matter. I guess her parents are not aware of this situation. The twin sisters have two names, too.

It only matters when they do something, and you call them every name to get their attention. They also know when you do, they're in trouble. It doesn't matter if they have many names or the usual first, middle, and last. They know they're in trouble. My daughter has four names, and always knew when I used all of them along with her last name, she was in trouble. Mothers pass this to their children. I remember my mother doing the same to me. My daughter doesn't mind having so many names. She chose which one she wanted to be called.

I do think that it is fine. I had seen some people who have lots of names. During her kindergarten days, she is compalining about it especially when writing them. Now, she got used to it.

@just4him I am glad that she did. The history will repeat itself for her twin sisters. Both of them have two names.

@Shavkat I have been heard that full name will be given while a kid enters to school in his or hers school certificate. Probably nick name will be set as an identity of love Apart my Full name, I have been called by many nick names. Some made me joy , some made me irritating... that's a different matter

I do understand how it feels when tagged with weird nicknames. Regardless, I still continue to use my real names and get used to hearing the pet names given by differen sets of people surrounding me.
