My Kid and Grapes

For whatever reason, my kids do not like grapes. I don't know why. My 13 year old son was sick the other day, but he kept wanting to eat. He had enough of bananas and berries . . . so I threw some red grapes on his plate. I expected that he would just leave them there. He ate them ALL . "Can I have some more grapes?" he asked. I couldn't believe it. "I thought you hated them". "I don't know," he said. "These are really good, Mom!". Maybe being sick did something to his taste buds . That's fine. So silly me rushed out this morning to go buy some more grapes. I gave him some grapes and what does he say . . . "I don't want them". I said, "You loved them the other day, what happened?". His reply, "I just don't like the concept of grapes". Concept??? . Do you enjoy grapes?

There are several types of grapes. Maybe they don't like the seeds. Do they like raisins?

@much2say .......I thought maybe it was due to the seeds. I guess we all have our likes and dislikes.

@celticeagle When I was kid, I think I do recall not liking the bitter seeds! But I still liked the grape part itself.

We mostly get the seedless grapes. And nope on the raisins (unless it's in a cookie and that's a maybe ).

I hope your son is well again soon. Funny you should mention grapes. My friends gave me some red ones without seeds and they were delicious. When I was a child I loved all candy that was grape flavored,

Thank you - he is getting better! How nice of your friends to give you those tasty seedless grapes! Funny - we liked grape flavored things too - including drinks and gum. Do you enjoy grape jam/jelly as well?

Oh, lord. That is hilarious! Kids are so puzzling. I’m not a big grape fan now, but as a child I sure was. I always wanted grape juice, but it was too expensive for my parents to buy. So, after our church had The Lord’s Supper one Sunday, I sneaked into the church kitchen, got the grape juice out of the fridge, and gulped down half of a cup! I put it back in the fridge, and scurried back into the church foyer where everyone was saying goodbye. I was so happy!

They are great especially when they are perfectly ripe/sweet! And they are healthy . . . I heard the black ones were particularly healthy.

I don't like grapes but 'concept of grapes'??? That's a new one on me. I don't care much for nanners either cuz they're just way too sweet but on the flip side I do like banana cream pie, go figure

It's a new concept, right ? Hubby and I prefer "nanners" that are a tad on the green side. Yah, they can turn pretty sweet. Ohhh, banana cream pie is good !

I love them, but have to really limit them because of the sugar. I freeze them sometimes and suck on them. I am less likely to overindulge that way.

Does it make a difference if they're red grapes or green grapes? My family seems to prefer green ones, but they're definitely more tart than red ones.

I have a friend whose kids/family prefer the green ones too. Hubby and I will take any grapes . . . recently we're loving the black ones. I am thinking you probably have at your work those fancy ones . .. like cotton candy or moondrops?

@spiderdust I love those cotton candy ones but right - we don't see them for too long. The moondrops are awesome - that one we don't see as long either. They're a bit on the pricey side, right?

@much2say We sometimes have the cotton candy ones, they have a pretty small season. I'm not fond of them though, they just taste like sugar to me. The moondrops though -- WOW! They have very intense flavor! We don't have them in stock very often either, but I'll splurge on them when they show.

Yes, most kinds I mainly like the red and green. I think I don't like the black so much because it's hard to see if there are spots on them. I don't bother with the fancy, more expensive ones. They are also good as a frozen treat on a hot day.

I used to not like the black - I thought the peel was rather tough and bitter. But eating them recently, it's totally not what I remembered. Ah, I didn't even think about spots. Right - the expensive ones like Cotton Candy - they can be expensive and there were times when I had a not too sweet batch. Oh yes, frozen is good too - it's been so long since I've done that!
