As we all probably have heard, getting out of your comfort zone can be the ticket to a rewarding life. In other words pushing yourself to do things, that may not feel comfortable at first, are good for personal growth. I admit, I do things some things that are a bit out of my comfort zone, but oftentimes I just stay in it because it is, what is the word I am looking for?? Oh I know...comfortable.... Taking steps out of it though will lead to a richer more rewarding life. What about you, are you in or out of your comfort zone?

For personal growth - yes - I'm all for going out of my comfort zone. But I definitely feel safer and less stressed in my comfort zone (I guess doesn't most everyone?).

Yes, sometimes in order to survive, we have to do things, we probably wouldn't do otherwise. However, sometimes you can get comfortable with the discomfort

Every time we go to a house-sit I'm out of my comfort zone. I know how important people's pets are to them and worry a bit about caring for them properly.

I stepped out of my comfort zone in high school. It was a big step. I am terrified of heights and in my gym class my teacher scheduled us for gymnastics. This included doing things like the parallel bars, the "rings", the horse, and worst of all, the balance beam. I was scheduled among the first group of girls to do the balance beam. The teacher had developed a beautiful routine with a super mount and dismount. The mount was one where you would raise yourself up and straddle the beam, then reach back with one foot and use the top of the foot to stabilize your leg so you could lift yourself up. It went on from there, including a back somersault over one shoulder and then you dismount. I managed to keep from having to do the "beam", but then the teacher noticed. She told me if I didn't do the beam I would flunk gym class and not graduate. I sighed deeply and even though she wouldn't listen to my explanation that I was terrified of heights, she insisted. I tried the mount and ended up hanging onto the beam by my arms and legs. She finally told me to climb up (with the help of four of my fellow students) and do the rest of the routine. I got up, took one look and froze. She tried to get me to jump down, but I wouldn't. She finally knocked on the boy's locker room door and asked for the boy's coach to help out. He came over to lift me down (he didn't say a word to me) and wrapped his arms around me-I freaked out and clawed the daylights out of the top of his bald head!!! Needless to say after he got me down he had to get some gauze and go to the nurse's office and then to the doctor. (Kind of embarrassing to have to tell the ER Doctor that he got clawed by a panicked student) I was ordered by the girl's gym coach to NOT do any of the gymnastics, just to suit up and do my homework. I passed gym with an "A", and I haven't ventured too far out of my comfort zone since.

@snowy22315 My Mom never slipped and called me "Grace". I was one of those girls that couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. I think she got that down pat when I was in 8th grade and I had a math class in the wood shop classroom. The class members would have to sweep up the sawdust and mess, to do this they had to put the chairs on top of the work benches. I got into class and the chairs were still on the work benches, we had to lift them down. My next class after math was gym...it was Monday and we had inspection which meant that our gym uniforms had to be clean and spot free. So I had to hang onto my books, uniform and other items and use one hand to lift the chair down. Well, I managed to drop the chair on my nose. I ended up in the nurse's office with her calling my Mom at work to tell her that I dropped a chair on my nose. Her reaction was priceless, like any mother's would be. "SHE WHAT?? SHE DROPPED A CHAIR ON HER NOSE??? IS IT BROKEN??? THE CHAIR, I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT HER NOSE!" I finally got to talk to her, and heard all the laughing in the background. There were about 8 people in the room when she answered the phone and they couldn't help but to hear what happened. Mom asked if I needed to go to the doctor or go home and I told her no...but the next day I looked like a raccoon with both my eyes turning black.

Yes, that is a point..we are likely a bit more fragile than when we were young. You could do some small things though like maybe going out with a couple of friends, or having a small dinner party or something.

Out where my writing is concerned. I started a novel over 20 years ago that isn't finished yet because I don't even like the genre, romance, but decided to try it anyway. It's difficult and almost done after all this time. Doing things outside your comfort zone isn't easy, but as you said, can be rewarding.

I normally don't like to talk to others because I'm insecure about everything. I feel like everyone is against me. But I don't like talking About my feelings to my husband in fear of becoming a burden to him... Lately I found myself talking to people. I was skeptical at first but I'm enjoying the talks I have now.

I like staying at home but do have to go out sometimes for some shopping or to the bank. So even if I don't want to move out I do that gives me some exercise.

I think by comfort zone they mean more of an emotional or physical thing...like do you ever do things you are not comfortable with in order to grow emotionally? For instance, speak to people you might not ordinarily do sy in order to make a new friend..or would you take a physical risk like sky diving for instance in order to get a thrill?

Sometimes I am out of my comfort zone. But I feel like I don't have the strength to be out of my comfort zone for a long time.
