How much of the climate change problem do you think is due to human activities?

I haven't looked at any statistics on this but I would guess close to 90 percent. People don't seem to get that the Earth's resources are limited and we can't continue to live in the selfish away we have always lived, and not expect there to be consequences. What percentage of climate change do you feel comes from human activities?

Human activity causes a lot of pollution but the way climate has changed throughout the millennia makes me think humans have little influence. We do have some and we should strive to do our best. Human activity probably affects the consequences/damages climate change delivers more than the climate change itself. Heavy rains wouldn't be so destructive if there were more trees to absorb water, desertification wouldn't be as serious if we didn't exploit the soil so aggressively for agriculture, and so forth. But crazy weather has always been part of our planet's history. We should just try to prevent damage instead of making it worse, because we can.

I think with their overuse of materials, and continually cutting down trees..polluting the ocean and so forth has great deal to do with climate change. Of course climate had changed a great deal throughout the millennia, but humans are very careless with the resources of this planet which I think contributes significantly to the problem. That is why many countries are now trying to cap greenhouse gases and carbon emissions.

@snowy22315 Yes, as I said, human activity worsens the consequences. Our ancestors were fine wearing lighter clothes and at worst, migrate elsewhere. They even learned how to build housing with a natural cooling system instead of relying on A/C like we do. Those were better times for Mama Earth, for sure.

I think a lot of this is a matter of control. They worry about Aunt Mabel's hair spray while volcanoes around the world spew out toxic gases. We were supposed to run out of oil decades ago but it is still pumping out of the earth. The government wants your cars, gas stoves, your cows, and even your chickens. They want us to eat bugs while underwater volcanoes are melting the poles. Some of it might be from human activity but I believe most of the warming is due to earth cycles and changes. Many of the ideas the government has are from wanting control of your life. No traveling, stay in your 15-minute city, eat insects, and never question anything.

I have checked recent statistics and they say that humans are responsible at 95%.

@snowy22315 - I know that here where we live it change a lot during the past 6 years. Our pond used to freeze during winter, you could walk on it. The past two years it did not snow and we never went below 32 F.

That's a really good question, and one to which I have NO answer. It's also a politically charged question, as Libs tend to blame our exploitation of the earth, and Conservatives either deny climate change or blame it on the earth's cycles which have been documented for a long time. Obviously it's a mix, but I tend to err on the side of seeing humans as pi*s ants compared to Mother Nature. Of course some of my Lib friends get mad at me. But in the end I acknowledge climate change (I have hiked on the same glaciers over several decades, and they ARE melting), while simultaneously admitting that I can't put a figure on how much of it is human-caused.

Most scientists are in agreement..that humans are almost entirely responsible for climate change..which I think might be overstating the case a bit, but after squandering the world's resources for years and being selfish and careless, we appear to be reaping the consequences.

@TheHorse I guess some people 'enjoy' taking responsibility because it makes them feel as if they have control over the situation and be able to revert the global warming. Whether it's possible or not, whatever helps decrease pollution and the reckless explotation of resources is more than welcome.

@snowy22315 I think it (humans v. cycles) is a difficult thing to research. But my LA experience (in some comment or another around here) shows that we can positively affect the environment.

I would wager to say, 98% of all damage done to our climate, was created by the foolish, wasteful, greedy people living on this earth. Money is the only thing they want!

Can't even think of the percentage but I know we've done a great damage to nature and mother earth. It's not to late to change but are we ready yet? I bet no....

I know my opinion is probably not popular, but I’d say 60% is us. We have not been good stewards of the earth, no, but I believe a large amount is in addition to humans.

90% or more is from humans messing up the planet and we always think the next generation can worry about it and do something. The ice caps are melting more than we though so we might be to late to do anything. I hope not.

@JudyEv In the city it seems SUV's are a status symbol of sorts..Lots drive them whether they have families or not. Around here, you are more likely to find sedans and pick up trucks. Although some do drive utility type vehicles.

B-4 asking the question it's always a smart thing to do a little research on the question, BUT on that note I'd say MOST of the things people do is the cause of it. But the main question would be more interesting to ask is HOW much we can CHANGE what we do to help climate change for the better of the future, who has that answer?

It will probably be most of it. We are consumers here and we plunder the resources for centuries.
