Do you think the world is really going to end on April 8th? Will you "watch" the solar eclipse?

I just read a funny article saying that the Conspiracy Theory types are having a good old time with the forthcoming solar eclipse. Do you remember Alex Jones, the "conspiracy theorist" who made a lot of money spreading ideas like 9/11 was an inside job, Sandy Hook and other school shootings never happened, etc. He's probably having a field day with the eclipse. Maybe I'll see what he says later in the day (if he's still out there). The article I just read read claims that some are convinced that the world will end when the solar eclipse visits us on Monday. I wish I knew people who thought that, so could have them give me their cars on Sunday April 7. Yikes, that's tomorrow. What's funny is I believe power will be out in my entire apartment complex Monday . Biblical prophecy? No, Pacific Gas and Electric. I'll post a link to the article I read. Not too long. Do you think the world will end Monday? (If so, do you have a nice car?) Will you be looking out for the eclipse?
Let’s break down some of the common conspiracy theories around the April 8 solar eclipse.

This reminds me of the huge buzz when the year 2000 was about to happen.

@MarieCoyle I am open mouthed. I hope the one person knew how to harness a horse and more importantly, how to drive one safely. A college professor!

We were neighbors with a college professor in 2000. He was convinced that Y2K would be the end of electricity. He purchased $5K worth of Duracell batteries, and I am not making that up. One of my oldest daughter’s friends was convinced that would be the beginning of the end. He converted two extra rooms in their house and stuffed them to the brim with foods. He bought a horse and buggy. He bought endless containers of gasoline and poured it into barrels at home. He bought a ton of batteries. He sold a lot of it at a big loss.

We will be talking about the eclipse at school. We are nowhere near totality. The kids will be traveling home during the peak of it. Obviously I do not think the world is coming to an end or I would not be going to work.

Will you try to explain an eclipse to the kids? How old are they?

From fb: Helpful tips for a safe eclipse viewing experience: The people of Tennessee may have the best view but will also be the first to be sacrificed. Animals may behave strangely. If your dog speaks like a man heed it's dire warning. Don't trust the squirrel with the child's face. It speaks only lies, When your double arrives, resist the inclination to fight it. It may be stronger than you. Chances are it will disappear after the eclipse. Be careful it doesn't switch places, it will be a few decades before you get the chance to come back. If you stare into the void, and it blinks first, you win. But the prize is insanity. Werewolves are not only impossible to kill during an eclipse, they become SUPER WEREWOLVES. Whatever you do don't buy any weird plants, we don't want a repeat of last time. Apophis, the Moon Serpent, may try to eat you. Let him. If once upon a time you were falling in love, but now your only falling apart, there's nothing you can do. This a different type of eclipse.

Everytime we have an event like this, you've got at least one or two people who think it's the end all be all. Those under the total totality vidwing area are getting flooded with onlookers.

Well, we will not see the eclipse here, so I suppose only "part of the world" will end and the rest will continue.

@TheHorse We had many partial eclipse in the past, but very few total eclipse. This side of the world we will have one in three years... so our half world will last three more years.

There have been lots of predictions about the end of the world. They all seem to have been incorrect (unless, of course, author Douglas Adams' theory was correct and the world does end/restart every so often and we just forget or are reprogrammed with new memories It is almost 7:30am on 8th April 2024 as I write this. So far, existence appears to be intact. I hope the world doesn't end today. It's my dad's birthday, and I think an apocalypse would be a somewhat unwelcome birthday present.

The eclipse will not be seen in my country. But I already saw one years ago. I stayed watching for a while but I found it boring. It is much too slow. As for the end of the world, it ended the year 2000 as I knew it would.

@TheHorse I surprised myself. Yesterday I was looking in a junk drawer that I hadn't looked into in awhile and found a pair of eclipse glasses that I had bought for the last one that happened in 2017. As of this moment, it's in the beginning stages. We are not in the totality area, but we will see 85 percent when it peaks in the next 35 minutes or so.

Mai Hoomin will be standing outside watching (actually watching, not sure what the difference is between watching and "watching") with his eclipse sunglasses. I'm pretty sure the world won't end - after all it is not a world-wide phenomenon and it was still here after the last one (2017). But I could be wrong. But as a cat, probably I am not wrong. Did you hear about the Senate candidate that linked earthquakes to climate change?
