Hanging coffee, did you know ?

Today I read a very interesting post on social media about hangong coffees. Some small coffee places in Italy allow customers to order extra coffee or meals for other people in need. This is how it works: When you order your coffee at the till, you can add extra items and pay for them. The receipts with the extra items are hanged on an announcement board. Then someone who is in need and can't afford a coffee or meal can get the hanging items for free. Apparently this happens only in some small participating businesses, have you ever experienced this hanging coffee initiative?

cafes charge so much here, waiters expect tips now (we are no tip country) so i don't know. sounds nice if you have a spare money.

They do, that's true. I make my own coffee at home usually and use a thermos to take it to work, so I don't have to buy from the coffee shop. It doesn't have to be something expensive for the free items I guess.

@grenery8 Yes that would be ideal. I wouldn't be profitable for them, I am not sure they would do it unfortunately.

@besweet i drink tea but if i drank coffee,i would make it then carry it too. it is more economical i would rather like that cafe treats people in need with free coffe and some meal, not expecting others to do it, just my thought.

That would be great, as long as people didn't take advantage of it.

Yes that's definitely a risk, I thought about it too. I am not sure how they can manage that risk.

@besweet It's never large franchises that offer this, but small cafes and they know their customers and who are those in need.

We have a few places that do this, they call it ''suspended'' coffees. Same concept. I think it's very nice.

It's a good initiative yes, I haven't seen it in any shops here. It's nice to be able to help someone else in need and in a practical way.

@besweet I know we have one diner that lets individuals purchase a suspended meal as well, the cashier keeps the receipts on a bulletin board behind the counter for when they are needed.

Yes, we have a small, local coffee shop here that does that. They are well known throughout the city for being very generous and giving.

I've never heard of this but what a marvellous idea. I wonder if it will catch on in other places.
