Getting ready for bed in the olden days

Time for another wax figure from the Westonia Museum in Western Australia. This lady is doing her hair prior to going to bed. Doesn’t she look real? The dressing table had a lovely set of candlesticks, trinket boxes, hair brush, etc. I hope we get back there one day.

@judyev I must say that she doesn’t look very … accessible in that nightgown.

@porwest Her face isn’t really asking for anything to get hiked up!

@xFiacre We agree on that. lol. I mean, in a worst case scenario, at least the lights aren't on and you can just use your imagination.

She certainly does look real! Thank goodness our night gowns don’t have to be that cumbersome anymore.

I guess they had to iron them as well.

I like wax museums. I haven't been to one in quite awhile. There are a couple I know of not super far away though..maybe I should try to go.

Not that it's important but I guess I shouldn't call this a wax museum. Not sure that I have (called it a wax museum) but the wax figures that were there were very authentic.

@snowy22315 To me, it's a museum with a few wax figures helping make the displays come alive. The only wax museum I've seen was all wax figures and basically nothing else.

She looks very much real. It seems as if she might leap and start running the next moment !

She looks very real, also not too happy that she’s going to bed. Or maybe her hair is tangled. Actually, that’s part of the realism!

@JudyEv — I remember that “sage advice”! Glad I’ve always had short hair.

We used to be told to brush our hair 100 strokes before going to bed.

She really looks real. Everything I see on that dressing table, except the candlesticks, was on the dressing table of my grandmother, who also did her hair before going to sleep.

@JudyEv Same as my grandmother and the shape of the mirror with the handle identical to the one in your picture.

My grandmother had a bun but at night she would let her hair down, brush it thoroughly then plait it loosely.

@wolfgirl569 Some museums can get very dusty. There are never as many volunteers as they need.

She doesn't look very happy, I guess she's found a knot. I have a load of things like that too. But I'm not sure that curved brush is intended for a dressing table. I have one just like it and it goes with a crumb tray (like a little dustpan and brush set) to sweep crumbs off the table. Must show you a picture!

You could well be right. Unless people are 'of a certain age' they could mistake it for a hair-brush. I had a brush and crumb set too but the brush wasn't curved.

That is eerily lifelike wax figure. Except for the eyes when seen from afar it looked like they were all black. Perhaps the camera hasn’t caught the real color from afar but when I looked closer that i see it has an eyeball.

Certainly her eyes are very dark. I should have another of processing her face and see what colour her eyes are.

She's brushing her hair before bed? Won't her hair get all messed up/tangled up while she sleeps? Wax museums are fun. I've been to a few in my life, but we don't have any in my city or close by. But if I come across one when I'm traveling, I usually will visit and see what they have to offer.
