Ella Fitzgerald has been praised for the immaculate purity of her voice, arguably one of the, if not THE greatest female Jazz voice of all time, and yet, in terms of emotion/feeling, she is (perhaps) not rated so highly. I disagree. A version I have of "My One and Only Love" sung by Ella makes me weep every time I hear it, and I have heard it dozens of times, in fact, it is one of the key songs I listen to in order to get in tune with the more emotive side of my own nature. Has anyone heard Ella sing "Stairway to the Stars"? Sends me there every time. The beauty of her voice was almost unearthly. Ella was the tops, in fact, still is.

My daughter has a voice that makes me cry. She has performed at many weddings and functions. When I look around the room I see so many people that are weeping when as she sings. Her voice is that powerful.

Wow! I'd love to hear her voice. Has she made any recordings? Can she be heard online? Carl

Hi EB, no I didn't get a chance to listen to her yet, but I'm really looking forward to it, because of all the postively glowing responses to her voice on Myspace. I was due to visit my dad's today, but we rescheduled for tomorrow, and I will be going onto his computer tomorrow to listen. Carl

While I am not all that familiar with Ella Fitzgerald's work, I do know her voice when I hear it. Something that you said about weeping when you hear "My One And Only Love" is something I can relate to. I tell people that I don't just listen to music, I feel it.

I have discovered alot of Ella's work through thrift shops! I have bought four of her albums on cassette for next to nothing, and what treasures they have yielded, beyond the songs she is most famous for. I identify with what you say 100%. Music is something to be experienced, not just listened to.
